Apparently neither is Canada... And unlike Canada, while America does have some social programs, was not a socialistic society last time I checked....Nor do I see Americans going to Canada to experience the great practice of socialized medicine.....for example.

$10,000 in seed grain . . . hmmmmmm . . . a drought in Texas. Not quite the same as rampant socialism, is it?

Considering that every response in America and from America, has come FIRST from the private sector, since the goverment is tied up with beuracracy and slow to respond... Unless you are saying people MUST rely upon goverment and do not need to be SELF sufficent.... I fail to see just what your point was.

You are the one that made the comment about not being his borther's keeper... funny how that is taken from the Christian Bible, and a Christian comment, coming from a self avowed Budhist and alledgedly so many people in America offended by the word God or Christian values would approve of such.

Not so much the Buddhist...... but just the idea of the negative commentary. How many monks would starve if others did not provide them with food?

BTW how much aid has the US provided Canada with??? I am sure it is alot more than $ 10,000 in seed grain ......

That Bush clip with Andy Dick is HILARIOUS!!!!!! I nearly peed my pants - and the best part - or the worst part I guess since he is the leader of our country - is that those are not doctored in any way.....
classic.......
I'm still thinking Bush got re-elected bc of the swing vote of the comedian - they need the material!!!

I applaud all of the response coming from any sector which shows lovingkindness to one's fellow beings. What does my being Buddhist have to do with quoting Christian tenets? They are not mutually exclusive, you know. I said nothing negative, merely made a comment about Grover Cleveland's veto of the seed grain in 1887. A comment. Read into it whatever you insist upon.

Brother's keeper comes from Genesis and the story of Cain and Abel, its not just a Chrisitan thought, the Torah or Pentatuech is used by Christians, Jews, and Muslims, just FYI not entering the argument

Brad, there is no argument. One cannot have an argument when there is only one side in discord. Do not worry. You have given information for which I am thankful. Sam wants to say things about Canada and socialism. I do not.

Thank you, Brad

Actually I don't...perhaps I read something more into that which you did not intend.

I took it as you supporting the goverment knowing what is best for the "We the People"....one can clearly look back in time and see just how good any goverment actually does.

As for my remarks about Buddhists....I have met several monks over the years and they had to rely on others to supply them with food and substinence...if that is wrong then so be it... Perhaps they were of a different sect or order than you or your beliefs are.

My thoughts are for people to be self sufficent as best they can, and not to have to rely on goverment... then again people get the goverment they deserve when they do not particpate in it and are forced to live under the majority of the minority that actually do participate and take part.

I can say from Firsthand experience, Canada was a great place to visit...other than a couple of rude arrogant people that refused any help that was much needed and Many BIG HUGE THANKS to the shopkeeper that did help me. I have been there many times to various places and always enjoyed my stay.

No I don't dislike or hate anyone or Canadians in particular or even Buddhists. People are people no matter where in the world you go or find yourself.

I thank the Canadians that have served in our military when our own people would not.

Even though the aforementioned act took place in Colorado during the summer, I think the cold, Canada air caused perma-shrinkage.
