Any writers/would-be writers here?

Just curious...

Reading posts, I see a lot of people who can express themselves in print.

Anyone here a writer, or at least a would-be writer? I don't necessarily mean for a living, but something beyond the weekly grocery list...

Ever been published? :o

I would be a writer if I didn't spend so much quality time on BuffettNews!

It's a way of honing my skills! :D

I had a poem published once... just one of those silly poetry books that are advertised.. but I was proud. :)

I wrote this page:
http://www.qwest.com/wholesale/systems/odm.html

And wrote this document:
http://www.qwest.com/wholesale/download ... t_1_01.pdf

So yes, I've been published, but it ain't a fun read, unless you really dig computer systems.

I used to write "for fun" a lot, but it really fell by the wayside. I do love my job though, however nerdy it may be.

Hubby always jokes that I can document the hell out of anything.

My goal would either to be a published children's author or write erotica.

wow BB, that's... er... quite a spectrum, there. :pirate:

BTW... I read the tech document. Well, the first part of it. Actually the first few lines, then skimmed the next page, and had to give it up. My head hurts now.

 I do and have. Some years ago I used to write fanfiction, and I've written some original drama and romantic fiction that has been published on some writing boards and in a college publication some years back. I still write short stories and novels as a way to relax. Nothing major.

Maybe someday I'll try to get published.

Also won a prize off of Petsmarts site a couple of years ago when I wrote the story of how I got my dog. It was published online with a pic of my pup.

:)

  Yeah, I figure to reach BOTH of my goals, it would require quite a slick pen name of some sort.

The documents I do now are pretty boring unless you're the one using the system, but I'm super critical of the documentation that comes with stuff because so much of it is crap.

Mal, not only did I actually understand for the most part the document, but very nicely written!!!

I've spent years writing technical documents, and I really appreciate well written documentation :)

Thanks Jen. I really enjoy doing it. I haven't done a document like that in a while, though. I'm doing mostly e-learning courses (big deadline tomorrow, actually). The training link on that page I did too, but I don't think you can access the training w/out a password.

My buddy who's an actor in Vancouver thinks I should be a writer. I almost failed english in high school so he may be a little cracked up, but he thinks I have an interesting take on life. Many find my rants, opinions amusing.

I don't know what to think, although, I have been thinking of writing a short story/novel.

Yep. I've done some newspaper writing and some magazine articles as well. I'm currently working on a book. I've recently begun to take my writing seriously. I'm working half a day on a job for pay and spending the rest of the afternoon attempting to get published. The plan is two days per week doing magazine queries/articles and 4 days a week on the book.

I am a (among other things) a former Sports Editor/ Special Sections (feature) Editor for a small newspaper.

Pre children I had started "the great American novel" which is about two chapters in length so far. Mrs Bear says it is much too dirty. My "star" gets by anyway she can and boy...can she. :o

It is a lost love story set in the Key West as I remember it in the early/mid 1980's, I had a great start and a pretty good idea of where it was heading, but no clear way to as Bogey said in Casablanca have the "Wow finish". I think I have that figured out now, just need the time to get back at it.

The Amber Chronicles (book series), X-Files, Doctor Who, The Avengers, Record of the Lodoss Wars, Pokemon (for my nephews), Xanth series (book series), Dark Tower Series (book series), Vampire Chronicles, Lord of the Rings, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting. I used to have a site where I would accept submissions for plot summaries of short stories or novels and if I liked it, I would write it out. Only catch was I needed to have actually read or seen the movie or book series.

It was a blast, I wish I had time to do that again. It was also a great learning experience to get creative criticism as well.

I've written but it's been YEARS. Lots and lots of years ago. I was an editor of my high school newspaper and then was a theater major with an english minor in college. One of my old friends who works for FOX has been trying to get me to write some of my adventures in screenplay form :o

Zelazney's series was pretty good. Nice concept and all. Vampire Chronicles? There were some Highlander fan sites, and oddly, Homicide: Life on the Streets fanfic out there too

Nothing I wrote was ever published but I was an editor of one of the journals we published when I was in law school.

You'd be surprised (or maybe not) what has a fanfic following out there. Even the bible has fanfiction written about it. The list at fanfiction.net is pretty interesting.
