Buffett on the New Orleans Buffet w setlist (running)
Well he looked really fit in his yellow New Orleans t-shirt. He did a New Orleans style tune about marrying a Fortune Teller while accompanied by legendary Allen Toussaint on piano. I sure hope he's gonna do some more. Sweet Irma Thomas is in the house but Frogman Henry is done for the nite.

I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

I watched it too. I love being able to compare JB to other performers. It really makes me appreciate how great he is on stage. Just wish that he would have sang a couple of songs highlighting his connection with NO and the rest of the Gulf Coast, apart from Pascagula (sp) Run. I kind of got the impression that he was using the show as means of promoting himself, rather than paying tribute to the people who have lost so much.
Having Dave Mathews on stage was awesome though. That song really showed how great the Coral Reefer Band is and how they can do anything. Anyone know if JB played with Dave at the other show?

The Setlist
I enjoyed very much Jimmy & the CRB but my wish list was far from the actual.
1. City of New Orleans (for Steve)
2. Saxophones (for Benny, Irma, Frogman)
3. Mississippi Lady (for Jim Croce)
4. Mardi Gras (w Paul Simon)

This is a copy of the post I had from the "Who's buying the PPV tonight?" thread.
Oh well, I'm going to say it... the production sucked, Mac wasn't on mike for the first song, hewas having problems with his guitar to the beginning of the third song.
Lots of dead air.
And, (getting ready to duck)
other than Pascagoula Run, it was the same old, same old. Given the possibilities, I was a little disappointed. (Tryin to Reason, Biloxi, City of New Orleans, no reference to Goodman?)
But damn, hair or no hair, that Nadirah can sing her a$$ off!
Commence the beating.

Well because A: you can kill two birds with one stone and B: it was the anniversary of his death and C: he wrote City of New Orleans...see how it ties together?LIPH wrote:Just curious, but why do you think there should have been a reference to Steve Goodman? This was a hurricane benefit concert, not a Steve Goodman tribute.

How was it Live? We've only heard from people who listened on XM or watched on PPV.
Simon & Garfunkle have no chemistry together at all anymore. Most of the time they were on stage they barely acknowledged each other, it was like they didn't want to be in the same city together.
With all the artists they had at this show I still can't believe JB got to do 10 songs. Too bad it was a typical setlist, except for Heart of Gold with Dave Matthews (who still sucks). Bill Payne and Sonny Landreth were both there with the Reefers, but Heather and Louisa weren't.
John Fogerty just about brought the house down. The New Orleans musicians - Allan Toussaint and his band, The Neville Brothers, The Meters, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and The Rebirth Brass Band (I think that's the name of the band) - were all great. Irma Thomas should give singing lessons to all those talent-free bimbettes that seem to be dominating the music charts. I've never been much of an Elton John fan but he always seems to show up at these type of shows and he did a pretty good job on his 3 songs. Cyndi Lauper was surprisingly good, and her hair is all one color now.
Bill Clinton is still the only man who can turn introducing a band into a filibuster.
Ed Bradley plays a mean tambourine.
By time the show ended, the section I was in was about 90% empty. I was the only one left in my row.
Bette Midler is an ass.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here
