Weight training advice??

Post by island_hopper »

Hiya! Once again this term in school I'm taking lap swimming (gotta fulfill those PE credits!!). I absolutely love it.....and notice that along with the aerobic bennies that there is obviously some resistance there too, especially in my arms.

I'd really like to incorporate some weight training into my workout schedule. Enough to gain strength and tone without becoming totally buffed out. I like definition without a lot of muscle mass. I am currently trying to lose weight as well......and I know that weight training can help boost my metabolism.

Other than the typical throw-back-your-beer workout (which is mostly why I need to lose weight in the first place  ), I'm hoping that someone might be willing to throw some advice out here?? Thanx in advance! :D :wench:

Couple of ? before I will give ya some advice
How many times are you going to work out
R u going to use free weights or machines
How much time do you have to work out
What areas do you want to approve

Usually 3 sets between 10-15 reps
at nice control lifting motion

How many times are you going to work out Swim/treadmill mon-fri. I was thinking weights 2-3 times a week?

R u going to use free weights or machines I have the opportunity to use both. I have a set of light free weights at home (5 & 8lbs) At the Y I have access to machines or free weights.

How much time do you have to work out I'm pretty flexible with time, Wed being my only really full day of classes.

What areas do you want to approve Everything! Really, I would like at first to do this to speed up weight loss and tone up. I would say that my arms, tummy and bum would be high on my list.

Usually 3 sets between 10-15 reps
at nice control lifting motion
Thank you for responding!

You'll also notice some improvement if you wear the "swimmer's gloves". Its amazing how much resistence those add to the workout.

BTW, other companies make them. Just go to a local sports store.

Fins will actually make the swimming easier. These gloves provide more resistance in your arms. You will swim faster, but you will certainly feel it in your arms the next day. :pirate:
