About to hit the news again...

Last week, our little town of Tifton hit CNN Headline News, AP, and other international news media for five (now six) murders of Hispanics in trailer parks by a trio of blacks (in one night) ... Now, we have all kinds of news vans downtown interviewing a local news hog who is complaining because the city flew a flag of Mexico at halfstaff on the flagpole at City Hall, BELOW the flags of the U.S. and Georgia, as a show of support to the Mexican community that is hurting.

I don't think it's a big deal... The mayor said he would fly it one day for each of the men killed, so it is coming down tomorrow. But this one guy is stirring up a controversy by saying it shouldn't be flown on government property in the U.S.

What does anyone else think?

OK - this has nothing to do with your thread - do you know a gal by Donna Thomas? Married to Brent Thomas? She is a best friend - from age 0 - lived down the street from me in Chicago. She lives in Tifton!

Agreed. The TV news said the guy tried to climb the pole and take it down. It got shredded, so the mayor had it removed. The Catholic Church and Mexican community asked them not put a new one up because of the controversy. :( Just STUPID!

according to the flag rules and regulations published USHistory.org

When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace.

Thank you, AF. On the radio, they were debating whether it was legal, and no one knew, so you've got the official word.

My feeling is, why couldn't they just let it be? Look the other way for a week. I'm sure it would reassure a lot of local Mexicans who are looking at everyone as a threat.

your welcome. :P

i'd say pass it along to the radio station. but is sounds like your mayor needs a lesson in the proper display of flags.

I am sorry, there are only a few flags that should be flown on government property. Our Nations Flag and State Flag, and yes if your city has a flag, that flag too.

NO OTHER FLAG SHOULD BE FLOWN.

And I dont give a rats ass if anyone thinks its racist. You want your countrys flag flown do it on your own property or go back to your country where you came from and fly it there.
