I swear by it, especially if you like shows that are on conflicting times. Plus the convenience of being able to fast forward through commercials and being able to pause or slow it down to see something specific is priceless.

Plus if you have the setup for it, it's great to be able to pull shows off to a computer and burn them to dvd (there's a couple of cooking shows I do this with).
How do you pull the shows to your computer? I am new at this  , but I knew you guys would have great input for me!
My husband bought a video card with the needed inputs and pulls it through while we watch it, edits out the commercials, and then puts little menus on the dvd's for me. I think the video card was 279 about a year and a half ago when he got it. There are cheaper versions out there. I would recommend investing in a large hard drive if you do much of it though. Depending on the encoding and editing, the file sizes can get quite large, especially if you're taping a lot of episodes. The video card was an invidia card, but the I can't remember the model number offhand.

don't have it, dont really have a use for it until the good old vcr either dies or they stop making tapes. What I do want now is HDTV.

A friend of mine sent me DVD copies of super bowl 39 and 2004 Dallas/Seattle MNF (letterbox) and the picture quality just blew me away.

For those with HDTV and tivo do you lose picture quality when you record off it or is there no noticeable difference. I am trying to get on the boss's good side so she will let me get the HDTV so far all I have gotten back is hell and #$#$ no :)

Not if you get an HD DVR.

Tivo is the greatest invention in the history of the planet. Seriously!! To give you an example of how great it is... We recently switched to Vonage (broadband phone) and found out (after the fact… Thanks Vonage!! ) that Tivo cannot make it's weekly call to download information on Vonage's network. I'm not sure why, I just know that it won't work. If we wanted to stay with Vonage and still use Tivo we had just one option. That option was to create a wireless (you could go wired, but why would anyone want to do that...? ) network and have Tivo get it's download via the Internet. Well, since I wasn't really sure what I was doing or what I was supposed to buy, it took me about two weeks to get everything figured out and up and running (which I finally finished last night!! :D ). That was a really lllllllloooonnnnggggggg two weeks!!

Anyway, the point of my telling you this is just to reaffirm how great Tivo is. It totally redefines the meaning of watching television. Watch any show you want whenever you want. Commercials?? What commercials. Never watch another one again. Season Pass Manager. Oh, baby!! Now We're talkin'!! I'm tellin' ya!! TIVO IS AWESOME!!!

PS - Now that Tivo has been connected to my "home network" I can do things like transfer the video files of the things I've recorded from Tivo to my PC’s hard drive. I can also log into http://wwww.tivo.com and tell my Tivo what I want it to record from anywhere else on-line. Which I just did. I just logged in and told Tivo to record MNF tonight. Well, see what happens... :P

I have Direct TV w/ Tivo - love it. You should be able to watch / record 2 live channels at the same time. You just plug in 2 coax cables to the "Satellite In" jacks instead of one. Then when you set up, select dual tuner.

YES!!! We got ours a few months ago, and it has been awesome. Since the new 'keet pretty much controls our (well, *my*) schedule, it was hard to watch my favorite shows. But now I can watch them whenever I want. Being able to pause live TV comes in handy, too (when I have to dart out of the room for that emergency diaper change, etc.)

The only problem we encounter is not having enough time to watch everything we record! But we'll get caught up eventually.

Yes. :)

I have it and LOVE it!! :D

HDTV and a HD tivo box is incredible. Prices have gone down dramatically over the past year. You can get an HD 200hr tivo recorder.

Exactly, the problem now for us is watching everything we record. But then again I am typing this at 1:45am so I guess I found some extra time :P

I don't have a TIVO specifically, but I do have a DVR. I love it.

I'm scared to get it. I don't need another reason to watch TV. ESPN is already an addiction.

That works if you have cable TV. If you have Satellite TV you must have 2 cables from the dish. I wasn't told this when I got DIRECT TV and only ordered 1 cable to the Tivo, thus I'm unable to watch something while recording or record 2 shows at once. Not a problem if you have cable TV.

Circuit City has a DIRECT TV FREE DVR Tivo, $99.99 with a $100 rebate. Would be a good deal for anyone with Direct TV
