It is a must have if for not just recording shows being able to back up and review plays from football games or any sports event then move up to real time without missing anything.I love it
My husband bought a video card with the needed inputs and pulls it through while we watch it, edits out the commercials, and then puts little menus on the dvd's for me. I think the video card was 279 about a year and a half ago when he got it. There are cheaper versions out there. I would recommend investing in a large hard drive if you do much of it though. Depending on the encoding and editing, the file sizes can get quite large, especially if you're taping a lot of episodes. The video card was an invidia card, but the I can't remember the model number offhand.shakerofsalt wrote:How do you pull the shows to your computer? I am new at thissy wrote:I have directv with 2 tivo receivers (they were running a great special at the time). I honestly don't know what I would do without it. I swear by it, especially if you like shows that are on conflicting times. Plus the convenience of being able to fast forward through commercials and being able to pause or slow it down to see something specific is priceless.
Plus if you have the setup for it, it's great to be able to pull shows off to a computer and burn them to dvd (there's a couple of cooking shows I do this with)., but I knew you guys would have great input for me!
Not if you get an HD DVR.Alan11 wrote:For those with HDTV and tivo do you lose picture quality when you record off it or is there no noticeable difference. I am trying to get on the boss's good side so she will let me get the HDTV so far all I have gotten back is hell and #$#$ no
YES!!! We got ours a few months ago, and it has been awesome. Since the new 'keet pretty much controls our (well, *my*) schedule, it was hard to watch my favorite shows. But now I can watch them whenever I want. Being able to pause live TV comes in handy, too (when I have to dart out of the room for that emergency diaper change, etc.)pirateat30 wrote:tivo = must have. If you have kids you must have tivo otherwise you will never watch what you want to
Yes.shakerofsalt wrote:After reading several reviews, I have another question. Can you record a Live show while watching a different live show? I am looking at a box from TIVO, not one that comes from my cable or satellite provider.
HDTV and a HD tivo box is incredible. Prices have gone down dramatically over the past year. You can get an HD 200hr tivo recorder.NYCPORT wrote:Not if you get an HD DVR.Alan11 wrote:For those with HDTV and tivo do you lose picture quality when you record off it or is there no noticeable difference. Exactly, the problem now for us is watching everything we record. But then again I am typing this at 1:45am so I guess I found some extra timeCUparrot wrote:YES!!! The only problem we encounter is not having enough time to watch everything we record! But we'll get caught up eventually.
That works if you have cable TV. If you have Satellite TV you must have 2 cables from the dish. I wasn't told this when I got DIRECT TV and only ordered 1 cable to the Tivo, thus I'm unable to watch something while recording or record 2 shows at once. Not a problem if you have cable TV.WMN2BLM wrote:I have Direct TV w/ Tivo - love it. You should be able to watch / record 2 live channels at the same time. You just plug in 2 coax cables to the "Satellite In" jacks instead of one. Then when you set up, select dual tuner.
PM me your questions.. or call.shakerofsalt wrote:Looking for input on TIVO. I really don't know much about it, but I think I need it!Do you have it? Like/dislike it? Thanks!
