Never Forget - USS COLE

Post by SchoolGirlHeart »

Although what happened in Yemen was somewhat overshadowed by the attacks the following year, I want to remember my 17 shipmates killed in the attack on the USS COLE, DDG 67, five years ago today.

Sail on, brothers and sisters. Rest in peace.

We will never forget your sacrifice.

The Sailor's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my pilot, I shall not go adrift;

He lighteth my passage across dark channels;

He steereth me through the deep waters,

He keepeth my log.

He guideth me by the evening star for my safety's sake.

Yea, though I sail mid the thunders and tempests of life,

I shall fear no peril, for Thou art with me,

Thy stars and heavens, they comfort me.

The vastness of thy sea upholds me.

Surely fair winds and safe harbors shall be found

All the days of my life;

And I shall moor, fast and secure, forever.

Amen.

I was in Norfolk today, on business. Virginia has a number of special auto license plates available, including one for the USS COLE. I saw that plate on a Suburban, in Norfolk, this morning. The vanity plate was "RIP-17"..... :cry: :cry:

Sail on Sailors---you will never be forgotten.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

The destroyers Cole (left) and Bulkeley (right) depart Norfolk Naval Station, Va., as part of the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group on Thursday. The Cole set sail on its first deployment to the Middle East since one officer and 16 sailors died when terrorists bombed the ship as it was refueling in the port of Aden, Yemen, nearly six years ago.

I saw this on the news...Remembering those who died as well as their families & friends....
And many good thoughts & prayers for those now on board both destroyers...
