Well I found a baby Python in my apt last night...god knows where it came from. I really don't know what to do with him...it..her..whatever. I've never had a snake before. I thought about taking "it" to the Humane Society..but I don't want them to kill it or anything...it's small...probably less than 12"...I have a box with a clear lid...airholes, a light enclosure hing so he can stay warm (I built it myself...lets hope I don't set fire to the place) and a little water dish so he can swim and have water.

So...what do I do? Are they hard to take care of or what?...i've been reading a bit but im still in the dark...any snake people?...it's just too damn cute to see dead

Contact your local herp society. They will know what to do. My uncle belongs to the Central Illinois Herpatilogical Society and they deal with this all the time.

They make good pets, but get big!! Feeding consists of large insects and small rodents at that size probably.

If you're up to the task, it would be a good pet. I'd get it checked for disease by a vet first.

This is one of the few times that I will disagree with BB. IMHO, snakes are not pets. They are wild animals and can never be domesticated. Not only that, it is not right to keep an 8 foot snake in a 125 gallon fish tank.

Daniel.... you crack me up! I like his house.

So if you just 'found' Harold in your house... you might want to talk to your landlord about making sure there aren't more around your apt complex... just maybe.

Where in your apartment did you find it? I would have to move!
Does someone in your building have a snake that it may have got out and climbed through a vent?

People that keep snakes as..pets, do a lot for educating friends about which snakes are dangerous and which are not..

Most people kill any snake they see. Some snakes do a lot of good, although, we do kill any poisonous snake that enters the yard. We leave the good snakes, non-venomous ones alone.

We have a corn snake almost 5 ft., captive bred. Captive bred snakes would probably not make it on their own. I'd never want any snake that has to eat more than rats or mice. I could never feed a rabbit to a snake, and would not want one that big anyway..

Herpatology is very interesting though....

And if your snake is bad, please don't spank it

They do make good pets most Boas and pythons are captive born in the states and adapt very well to leaving in aquariums.

If I had no choice and had to live in my bedroom for the rest of my life, I could adapt as well but I would not like it or be comfortable.

Our 8' snake lives in a 4' x 4' x 6' plexiglass enclosure. I think our snake is a happy one. It may not be domesticated...but I do think that most snake owners don't take proper care of them.
