I have to buy the real stuff, too. Hubby says that 'if you buy the crappy stuff, kids'll peg your house with it later'. I'm assuming that's what he and his brother did when they were kidsLaTda wrote:wife takes kid out & about
I hand out 50 bucks worth of candy in 2 hours (in costume) while playing the soundtrack to Apocalyps Now really loud
I'm a generous candy giver outer & buy alot of the real stuff, not all that sweet tart crappolla most kids get

For some reason our neighborhood is very popular with the kiddies, there are several Condo and apartment buildings in the area, and many of the local churches bus their kids to our neighborhood. We have on average over 400 kids pass by our door between 5:30 and 10:00pm.
We go all out, Animated(robotic) monsters and ghosts, the entire front room, porch, and front lawn are decorated. Our light post is transformed into an eight foot glowing headed bloody monster, we have stuff flying off the roof. We have a fog machine, and about 50 lbs of dry ice spread out in black couldrons throughout the yard. Black lights and scarry music finish the scene.
My wife loves handing out the candy, especially to the little kids all dressed up in their costumes. I go around the neighborhood with my beer stein, trick or treating for adult beverages. I usually get pretty smashed by the end of the night.
We have a tradition of having fondue for dinner. My wife cooks up a mean pot of 5 cheese and beer fondue, complete with sausage, shrimp, San francisco sour dough bread, and apples for dipping. Chocolate fondue for dessert. We sit in the front room eating, drinking, and handing out candy. An Exhausting night, but a great tradition. P.S. we always win the neighborhood decorating contest.

Six Flags Fright Fest - As season pass holders, we go a few times every year, including tonight!
Corn Maze - have wanted to for years, but haven't yet. Maybe this weekend.
Hayrides, pumpkin patch, etc -
Decorate yard with a graveyard and lots of monsters, including Herman Munster, and put up webs, pumpkins, gourds etc.
Kids school party on Halloween (or the Friday before if on a weekend)
Our town does trick-or-treating on the Sunday before Halloween from 1pm-5pm. While I am taking the keets around, we leave a large bowl of candy bars on our porch for the kids we miss. There is always some left when we get back home, so it seems we must have pretty decent kids around for the most part. It's actually pretty common practice in our area, and is better received than no answer at the door, or just a sign saying they're not home.
We carve our pumpkins the Friday or Saturday before trick or treating.
On Halloween, since many of the area villages have their trick-or-treating then, the kids put their costumes back on and go to my sister's door, my mom's door, other friends' doors, just for the fun of it - we certainly don't need the extra candy!
One thing we haven't done in the 14 years we've been married, is go to an adult costume party at a house or bar. I always used to, and still would, but hubby would rather not.

You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

Growing up, my parents didn't celebrate Halloween with us. Religious reasons...that's another therapy session.
I have been taking my son trick or treating to phamily and phriends the last couple of years. He's 3 1/2 and has already told me that he wants to be Buzz Lightyear this year for Halloween. Oh my.....

a few years ago I thought Halloween was pretty much dead in my town.
Then I had my son and a coworker started having an unnual huge adult costume party. Now I'm all into it.
At my old neighborhood the people were killjoys and would all cut their lights off on Halloween night, thus no kids would show up.
Last year was my first Halloween here in the new house/subdivision and we were totally caught off guard and bombarded with around 200 trick or treaters. A lot of my neighbors were even dressed up while passing out candy.
This year I'm ready and we're gonna scare the shiznit out of them with a scary set up in the garage.

Ha, the penny woman! There's always one in every neighborhood.sy wrote:The worst one I ever visited when I was a kid was the house that gave out prayer cards.buffettbride wrote: We're sooooo not the raisin house!! Always the good stuff!! I'd hand out the full-size candy bars if we could afford it!

What about the pretzel lady?
And it was never cheap stuff for me. I remember that after I finished trick-or-treating, and we sorted the candy. We put the junk back in our candy basket to give out to other trick-or-treaters.
Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar
