As far storms go Wilma is not that large.... the eye has been alot tighter and hurricane force wind only extending out around 50 miles from the eye to either side and tropical force winds somewhere around 175 miles.

Far smaller than Rita or Katrina.........but no less deadly.... a just hatched or born venoumous snake can bite you and kill you just as dead as an adult.

Sorry!!!     8)

But the people of Conzumel and Cancun are catching it and the people on the west end of Cuba and the Isle of Youth are DEFINITELY catching it....

I am going to try and postulate here why I think Wilma will lose part of her punch...
here goes...They might wrong...and probably are.

The North-Northeast side of the storm is catching Cuba with her mountains ( no jokes about they aren't mountains from people around or from the Rockies about mountains). The North-Northeast side is strongest side and most powerful of the storm where the torndoes are spawned....as Wilma passes over Cuba the winds feeding the Northeast to North side are coming over those mountains and losing strength. Thus losing at least some intensity and starving/depriving the North-east-north side of the energy/fuel required to maintain it's status.

When Wilma finally goes feet wet again and is back over the Gulf.... she is expected to pick up speed and POSSIBLY won't have time to recover what she lost. Let us hope she does not.

Also the surface of the Gulf while warm, I don't think the cold water brought up from the depths by Katrina and Rita have truly settled so the water may not be all that warm. I don't know I am only guessing here...They may have settled back. But it depends on Wilma's speed of movement.
If she stalls and takes the scenic route, WATCH OUT!!! Then by all means watch out and "KATY,BAR THE DOOR!"

When the storm nears land and the shallower waters the cold water brought to the surface definitely shows up and comes into play thus weakening the storm further.

Last word I heard is for her to make landfall go feet dry as a Cat II which as of at this time, no one really knows.

My prayers and thoughts to all in her path.

It's a good thing for FL if Wilma is taking her sweet old time. Staying over land (the Yucatan) will weaken her, and staying over the same area of water will cause cool water upwelling, which will also weaken her.

One weather guesser I heard, said it is possible she may just blow herself out over the Yucantan P., and may not be able to recover from it......but that was only a possibility and depends on how long she parties there.

Well, let her pull up a stool; start throwing back tequila shooters; and have her bend a couple bartenders' ears about that whore Betty Rubble and how Barney isn't half the man her Fred is...

That's keep her there long enough to pass out and leave FL alone.

One can only hope!!!!
Conzumel and Cancun are catching hell though...
The Keys are or were under Manadatory evacuation...Gov Jeb had already declared it a disaster area as of yesterday I think it was....

Bad news there is some more disturbences theweather guessers are watching out in the Atlantic...

I am sure many of you are asking "Bill what is it like to be sitting on the West Coast of Florida waiting for a hurricane?"

Well let me tell you.

I am currently sitting in a cave that is my home because I have had to board up all my windows in anticipation of Wilma. Furthermore it is like waiting on a fight were you know you are going to get you ass kicked, you just don't know how bad and there isn't much you can do about it.

So here I sit with water, whiskey, beer and food that will last me, the wife and keets for about a week. (Quick clarification, the whiskey and beer are not for the keets). I suppose the thought of "locked in a vacancy" comes to mind.

And yes Mal, I have been drinking. There really isn't much more to do right now. :D

Feel free to ask any questions you may have about this wonderful experience.

Well of course, hurricanes are nothing to mess with. And in the event I run low, I spent yesterday afternoon over at the neighbors house and they have a least a case of beer (which they have only for company) and roughly three bottles each of several different kinds of liquors. You can never be to prepared.
