And all this time I've thought the Cubs worst nightmare was not being able to enjoy time with their family during October.

I have been saying that for a couple of months now, and it may come true! Last night, when one of the broadcasters said that Houston was 5 outs away from their first World Series, my heart sank as I knew they were going to lose that game.

I have been taking grief from my Sox-fan friends (yes, I do have some) and my non-baseball friends.

If it does come down to the Sox and Cards, I would have to root for the home team---just cannot bring myself to root for the Cards no matter what.

But which would be worse.. Sox/Cards or Sox/Brewers? Yeah, I know, gonna be a few years yet before the Brewers have a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, but just a hypothetical question.

The Giants were once 5 outs from winning the World Series until the Angels unloaded from out of nowhere. I can feel Houston's pain. We had already ordered the celebratory pitchers of beer and they turned into the "drown your sorrows" pitchers of beer.

Last year was my worst nightmare for a World Series.
But it was actually NICE to be able to watch it without having to live and die with each pitch.
Too bad they couldn't BOTH lose.

Selig's rug will have become one with the soil by the time the Brewers are in a position to challenge for anything... :D

As a Cubs fan, the Brewers would be fine-could care less about them. the Cubs-Cards rivalry goes back soooooo far, that it is really the big rivalry.

Lots of discussion, but let's hear some answers. I'm a WSox fan, so my opinion is a little biased at this point.

Tho I was born and raised a Cubs fan, and the Cardinals were the 'enemy'.. I'm a National League gal, and I can not stand the White Sox and their (no, not all - one of my brothers is ;) ) fans. :)

I am a national league gal as well, but if (and I hope it doesn't) it comes down to the Sox vs the Cardinals, I will cheer on the Sox for the good of the city, and hope that the Sox fans have some mercy on me (like that will ever happen!)

The Brewers are a lot closer than you might think....

They missed the wildcard by 5 games this year. They are continuing to get better....they started 2 rookies in the infield this year, they'll have another year experience. They'll be upgrading 1st base from Lyle Overbay to Prince Fielder next year, to add some pop. They'll have Ben Sheets healthy (hopefully...he missed half of this season). And they will probably use Overbay and a prospect or two to get another Ace in the rotation for next year.

If not next year, then 2007 should be the year they finally get over the hump!

Next year's team looks like:

C: Damian Miller (Great at handling pitchers
1B: Prince Fielder (Top 5 prospect)
2B: Rickie Weeks (Considered a future perennial All-Star)
SS: JJ Hardy (Hit over .300 after the Break this year)
3B: ??? (Cirillo, Branyon, or Corey Hart
OF: Geoff Jenkins, Carlos Lee, and ??? (Brady Clark, Dave Krynzel or someone new)

Rotation:
1. Ben Sheets (Led majors in WHIP in 2004)
2. ??? (Whoever they can get with Overbay, or a free agent like AJ Burnett)
3. Chris Capuano (18 game winner)
4. Doug Davis (16 game winner last year)
5. Tomo Ohka (Pretty good for a #5)

Closer: Derrick Turnbow
(The rest of the pen is solid, too)

In the grand scheme of things the Brewers are inconsequential. The Cardinals are just EVIL personified and the White Sux are the White Sux, no good will come of this match-up.

That being said, as a baseball fan I must say, Albert....you da dman
