What's do you call your sandwich???

Post by mings »

So something I just read got me thinking... What do you call your sandwich? When you go to a deli, sandwich shop, bodega, or where-ever, what is the name of the sandwich you order on the long roll?
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

Hoagie if it's cold and on a long roll

Sammich if it's on sandwich bread or a kaiser

Grinder if it's hot

I prefer not to give them names.
That just personalizes them ... then you get attached to them.
Makes it so much harder to cut them in half and consume them.

(I so had to concentrate on carefully wording this or no telling where it would have gone)

Would you happen to be from the Pittsburgh or Ohio areas?

It's a hero sandwich. A grinder is something you have to pay for at a titty bar.

Tell me about it! When on vacation, I love to ask the wait staff what kind of pop they have and have them look at you with a blank stare and finally say, "HUH????"

I used to tease my ex-girlfriend's father about it. He took it well and would tease me about my Philly-isms. They're from Pittsburgh.

They're hoagies. Anyone who refers to them otherwise is dumb. There is no need for further discussion.
