Planning a last minute trip to DC, leaving next weekend staying at the Four Seasons (thanks to my husband's expense account). Need some trusty parrothead advice on places to eat/drink.

Adams-Morgan on the Metro Red Line has had a bunch of good restaurants and bars.ATLparrothead wrote:Planning a last minute trip to DC, leaving next weekend staying at the Four Seasons (thanks to my husband's expense account). Need some trusty parrothead advice on places to eat/drink.

Will you have a car at your disposal, or will you rely on cabs and Metro?ATLparrothead wrote:Planning a last minute trip to DC, leaving next weekend staying at the Four Seasons (thanks to my husband's expense account). Need some trusty parrothead advice on places to eat/drink.

I'd recommend using Taxis, the hotel is actually off the Metro by a long distance. Car rental and the cost of parking is pretty disgusting in DCbravedave wrote:Will you have a car at your disposal, or will you rely on cabs and Metro?ATLparrothead wrote:Planning a last minute trip to DC, leaving next weekend staying at the Four Seasons (thanks to my husband's expense account). Adams-Morgan Red Line stop is farther to Adams Morgan than the Dupont Circle stop on the same line.RinglingRingling wrote:Adams-Morgan on the Metro Red Line has had a bunch of good restaurants and bars.ATLparrothead wrote:Planning a last minute trip to DC, leaving next weekend staying at the Four Seasons (thanks to my husband's expense account). If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Remember, the cab fares are by Zones in DC. Kind of confusing, even for me.RinglingRingling wrote:I'd recommend using Taxis, the hotel is actually off the Metro by a long distance. I was going to recommend The Birchmere (click here), in Alexandria. It is a musical venue that draws great talent in a comfortable setting. It's not far from Georgetown by car, and Nanci Griffith, who will be there Friday 10/28, is legendary around here. I'm not familiar with Saturday or Sunday's acts.
Just north of G'town is the Austin Grill. It would be a good place for lunch. Start with a little shopping at Georgetown Park and work your way up Wisconsin Avenue. By the time you get to The Austin Grill you can reward yourselves with a marg and some pulled pork. Take a cab back to your hotel. (There is no Metro station in G'town)
Over near Dupont Circle is Johnny's Half-Shell, a good place for dinner. (It's not as casual as the name makes it sound.)
I'll see if I can come up with any more good ideas.

ya i saw them there during my first trip to DC when I was in high school - very very funny! They also travel around (they've been here several times). The Lost Manatee wrote:One of my favorite things to do in DC is to go catch a performance by the Capitol Steps comedy troupe. One doesn't have to be an insider or a news junkie to really enjoy this group.
There is a possibility I may get a job in the DC area. It's hella expensive to live there. I was looking for any suggestions on nice but cheaper places to live. My best options are to find a roommate or do some driving! eek!

Try the Sea Catch on "M Ave" in Gerogetown for great crab cakes. My wife and I try to make a trip there every few years just for the crab cakes. Also if you are into Ethopian food and eating with you fingers try Zeb's also great food on "M Ave". Both are only a short walk ( a few blocks) from the Four Seasons. Enjoy!
