Corpse mistaken for Halloween decoration

Post by Sam »

SHEESH!!! Can you imagine???
How did she get 15 feet up in the tree and in the no doubt in the dark?
Must have been really determined and trying to earn some fame perhaps?

This may have lingering effercts on some areas... no more hanging effigies /what have you, from trees for decorations.

Corpse mistaken for Halloween decoration
Woman’s body hangs from tree after apparent suicide

Updated: 3:39 p.m. ET Oct. 27, 2005
FREDERICA, Del. - The apparent suicide of a woman found hanging from a tree went unreported for hours because passers-by thought the body was a Halloween decoration, authorities said.

The 42-year-old woman used rope to hang herself across the street from some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday, state police said.

The body, suspended about 15 feet above the ground, could be easily seen from passing vehicles.

State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham and neighbors said people noticed the body at breakfast time Wednesday but dismissed it as a holiday prank. Authorities were called to the scene more than three hours later.

“They thought it was a Halloween decoration,” Fay Glanden, wife of Mayor William Glanden, told The (Wilmington) News Journal.

“It looked like something somebody would have rigged up,” she said.

I saw this article the other day and I can't decide if this person was someone with a terrific sense of humor trying to make one last "wacky" statement on the way out or someone who wanted to be found and end the pain. Suicide is never pleasant, so I'm not trying to make light of this, but I just wonder.

I know it's hard to tell if some of those halloween decorations are real or not. But I just can't believe it took that long for someone to notice....
