Where's Mal? Annie's subbing in on Friday Fives! Weddings...

Post by iuparrothead »

How many times have you been a bridesmaid/groomsman/maid of honor/best man?
Only 3 times, thank goodness! I was a bridesmaid for both brothers weddings and for one friend (that I unfortunately never talk to or see anymore :( ) I was supposed to be a bridesmaid this summer but the wedding got cancelled... good for her and good for me!!!

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
Awwww, hell no. Perfect time for the bathroom.

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
It's a tie: chicken dance, electric slide, YMCA & locomotion all SUKK!

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
Only that I had to disappear from a friend's wedding reception for a while because I was gonna puke from drinking so much champagne. Upon my return, I see a couple kids that were in my senior homeroom (this was during the time I was a student teacher) sitting at the table we were all at. I couldn't even see straight and I was trying to play sober so these kids wouldn't talk about how wasted I was the next Monday at school!

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
The best reception I ever went to was for friends that got married in the Caymans. Their reception was very casual attire and I've never seen so many people dancing all night because they were in casual clothes and shoes instead of formal wear!

How many times have you been a bridesmaid/groomsman/maid of honor/best man?
I was a bridesmaid for both my sisters. The first time I was only 12 and my mom made the dress. 27 yards of ruffle. It was burgendy. For my other sister, I was 15 and the first time I got bonafide drunk. The dress was peach colored. I still have both dresses, actually. The only other wedding I'll prolly be in is for my best friend Melissa.

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
I agree with Ann...time for potty break. Ya might as well tattoo "I'm still single" on your forehead for that event.

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
I'm using Ann's answer---It's a tie: chicken dance, electric slide, YMCA & locomotion all SUKK!

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
Not really that I can think of. Well...maybe one. Not horrifying...but I was kinda embarassed that hubby was out smoking a cigarette during "our song." He had proposed during "Come Monday" the year before and was outside having a smoke when Jimmy played it at my reception.

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
Um...Mine!!! Getting married at a Buffett show was just the coolest and very-well suited for all involved. :D

Great job Ann!!!!!!!!!!

How many times have you been a bridesmaid/groomsman/maid of honor/best man?
4xbridesmaid; 1xmatron of honor

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
NO!! Caught the best man once

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
Chicken Dance

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
Nope, even with the number that I have attended

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
Mine - after a carriage ride into the sunset, pulled up at the local tavern where 70 of us danced/drank the night away to live music

How many times have you been a bridesmaid/groomsman/maid of honor/best man?
4, I think. Maid of honor twice and bridesmaid twice.

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
Yes, when I was WAY younger, cause I remember feeling bad that one of the bride's sisters didn't catch it. That was before they did that hokey put the garter on the bouquet-catcher thing.

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
I don't really mind them cause I'm usually at the bar.

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
Just from when I was alot younger and had to get carried home down the railroad tracks cause I was wasted (I was like 13 or 14). Now I'm all cool at weddings.

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
My older sister's wedding was my absolute favorite, followed closely by my brother's. My sis's wedding was so much fun, I think, because people stayed dancing from the intro dance ON. It was a blast.

Me three too

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
Yup, but it took 15 years to work

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
It's a tie: Same as Ann's. However, EVERY wedding I have attended, that DID NOT Hoky Pokey ended in divorce.

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
At a High School friends wedding, guy in a tux was coming around talking to every table. I thought it was my friends new hubby and I very drunkenly told him all the wonderful things that Alex had told me about him and how we had to make sure we kept in touch and it was the best man, not the groom

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
You mean other than my own of course. The details are dim, but my friends Don and Maggie's wedding was an all night party that ended in debauchery and sin, that was pretty cool.

BTW... I'm going to the wedding reception of my friends that got married in Antigua a couple weeks ago, of which I attended.

This event promises to be a blast!!! No activity songs, no bouquet/garter tosses, lots of booze and great music!!! I can't wait!

And I managed to snag a date/designated driver so I'm going to take full advantage of the 80 cases of beer that have been ordered for the event! :D

How many times have you been a bridesmaid/groomsman/maid of honor/best man?
Once. I have tried to always avoid it "three times a bridesmaid, never a bride" :)

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
Yes - once

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
I LOVE activity songs!

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
YES! A close male friend got married. I had recently split up with my long term partner, and he was a strength to me through it. At the reception "someone" had a little too much to drink ... and managed to knock a tray of glasses of champagne flying from a waiter and dirty danced with the groom - just to name a couple

Anyway, at the end, when they were in the circle to say goodbye, I was in my usual fine emotional blubbering state when I say goodbyes (encouraged by free alcohol) and when Peter came around, I was hugged him, we then looked at each other holding hands and he told me he loved me, I told him I loved him ......

THEN - the Bride turned up - scowling  "If you want him, you can have him" :o

I am like "he is just my mate, I love him as my mate, never thought of doing anything else with him - who would want to - ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

(I was totally totally sh*tfaced!)

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
When I was "mother of the groom" for the Bridal waltz at my ex b/f's son wedding - just to see the look on his mothers face when her ex husband grabbed me and not her when they asked for the parents to dance was priceless ... and I was only 28

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?

Mine. A Party in my parents backyard, couple of kegs in the garage. We played "quarters" . My Mom said a couple of my college buds spent the night(not by choice). One woke up in the backyard, one in the front, and one in their car.

Groomsman, once

Have you ever caught the bouquet or garter?
Is that that rubber band I've seen flying around the bar?

What's your least favorite activity song to hear at the reception?
It's a tie: Dollar Dance; I always feel obligated. My theory is that unless the clothes are coming off, my money is being saved for another dancer. :pirate:

Have you had any wedding or reception embarrassing moments?
Not really. I was too hung over at one buddy's reception to enjoy the open bar. That wasn't much fun. Then again, the hangover was caused by the open bar at the rehearsal dinner.

What's the best wedding/reception experience you've ever had?
You mean ones that I can talk about on a "family" board?

In the wedding where I was a groomsman we had a pretty good time. The bride's family didn't want a lot of alcohol there, so the keg was hidden in the back room. It turns out that another highschool friend was getting married the same day a couple hours later so many of the guests were going from wedding to wedding. Being in a tux made this a little difficult. After the party had all but died down, there were still about 8 of us that huddled around the keg. The waiter emptied the keg into pitchers for us. (His job ended as soon as the keg was floated.) We all sat around and finished the keg.

Party-wise, my fiancee's brother had a pretty good reception. Nothing special, just good music and a martini bar. Once I got the bartenders trained on how to make my martini (vodka, rocks, squeeze of lime) everything was good.
It's your world, I'm just living in it! :pirate:
