"Tryin' To Reason" Benefit Tour event - Land O Lak

Post by Desdamona »

From The Old Parrothead:

The "Tryin' To Reason" benefit tour for the musicians who were devastated
by Katrina will take place 19 November from 1 PM - 5 PM at Rapscallions -
http://www.rapscallions.net/ (813-235-6511) 4422 Land O Lakes Blvd.
Sunny Jim will be adding his talents to three great performers from the
Gulf Coast. Cheri Salvetti, David Waugh and Joe Bennett will all be
performing, Cheri and Joe recently performed at MOTM. There will be four
sets, first with Sunny Jim and Cheri followed by either David or Joe and
the final set will have all four on stage for a Grand Finale.

To get to Rapscallions from I-75 take exit 275 and head East on Hwy 56,
when you get to Hwy 41 head North (Land O Lakes Blvd) and it is less than
two miles on the right - 4422 Land O Lakes Blvd. For those who will spend
the night, best to exit on 279 as there are four motels in the area (Best
Western, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn and Sleep Inn), then take Hwy
54 to Hwy 56 to Hwy 41. My personal favorite is the Best Western -
http://www.bestwestern.com/ Search for Wesley Chapel, have stayed at
three of the four and all are acceptable.

We will have great raffle prizes and a silent auction with many nice items,
including a flip flop table, folding and tray tables custom made by the
Jancos. Hand decorated Margaritaville Tequila bottles from Jimmy's store
in KW. Shael has fantastic tour t-shirts that will also be for sale for $10.
You may bring any raffle or auction items you wish to donate. Patti Janco
and Charlotte Lanier respectively, will be managing the silent auction and
raffle events.

There will be drink specials - $3.50 rum runners, Capt and cokes,
Margaritaville margaritas (including flavored margaritas) and $10 Corona
buckets (5 coronas).

Please pass on this information to anyone who might like to participate.
Let's make this a great afternoon for our friends from the Gulf Coast.

See you there!

Subject: Tryin' to Reason Tour - Gulf Coast Musicians in Florida this month
Date: Wed, 9 Nov 2005 02:46:43 +0000
Hi Everyone -
What a week we had in Key West! Wilma did nothing to dampen the party,
and THANK YOU ALL for coming out to support Sunny Jim and the Band.
We enjoyed having Cheri Salvetti joining in and we're looking forward to
having her back in Southwest Florida next weekend, and bringing other
friends from the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast.

Now that Meeting of the Minds is over we can finally focus on the "TRYIN'
to REASON" Tour.
For those of who who don't know, Sunny Jim and I have put together a
short Florida Tour for Gulf Coast musicians Cheri Salvetti, Coconut Dave
Waugh and Joe Bennett, who have all been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The whole idea is to get these talented musicians away from the hurricane
zone for a while and put them back to work. Hopefully they will sell some
CDs too. Sunny Jim will be hosting this traveling troupe of music-makers,
and we've got 8 dates scheduled here in Florida. Attached is the flyer with
show information...

So who of the Tampa crowd is interested in a night at Rapscallions?

We have all heard Sunny Jim, and I heard the rest of these people in New Orleans in August; all are excellent!

I will probably see the gig here in Orlando on Friday, but will come over to the coast on Saturday if some of the local BNers are going to be there.

Cheri Salvetti is the beautiful blonde percussionist
that played with Sunny Jim at MotM. Katrina took
her house, car and instruments.

Headlining the show is "Sunny Jim" White with special guest
musicians from the Gulf Coast who were displaced because of
Hurricane Katrina. They include Joe Bennett, "Island of Rhythm"

recording artist "Coconut Dave" Waugh. Sunny Jim's music has been
described as "American Caribbean" and ranges from ballads to fun
loving upbeat Soca tunes. He performs to audiences all across the
U.S. and has released 6 CDs.

Tickets for the benefit are $25.00 in advance or $30.00 at the show
and children 12 and under will be admitted free with a paying

On Sunday November 13th, the Southwest Florida PHC held our "Tryin'

featuring a variety of musical performers, with headliner
James "Sunny Jim" White and special guests Joe Bennett, "Coconut
Dave" Waugh and Cheri Salvetti, as well as local favorites: Kabana
Kurt, Lee "The Troubadour" Clark, Cindy Walsh, John Friday, Tequila
Tom and the Yard Dogs. I am prowd and pleased to report that we will
be sending in a check to PCF for the PHIN Fund in excess of $3,600.
(I'm still waiting for checks). We were also able to pay our
visiting Gulf Coast musicians for their time, so the actual amount
raised at our PHundrasier exceeded our expectations!

The turn-out was a lot lower than we had hoped, but everyone that
attended had a great time and our raffles, 50/50's and silent
auction really helped bring the dollar amount up.

We're ready to do it again next year!
