I'm watching the DVD right now, we're only on Fruitcakes, but I'm loving it so far! What does everyone else think?
I enjoyed the DVD (and what I have heard of the cd so far) Lots of good songs, some good crowd shots, and some of the parking lot clips were really good too.Jason Mason wrote:I'm watching the DVD right now, we're only on Fruitcakes, but I'm loving it so far! What does everyone else think?
The DVD is really good.. Cd's are a little lacking.. The song list is off after why dont we get drunk and screw.. The dvd makes it all worth while though....Jason Mason wrote:I'm watching the DVD right now, we're only on Fruitcakes, but I'm loving it so far! What does everyone else think?
It's alright. I don't like the set list quite as well as Vegas. If I never hear him play hey good lookin again it will be too soon. I did really enjoy the sweet caroline spin to WDWGD. Unfortunately he destroyed it by adding a childrens verse. Seriously, is there nothing left in the world that we can avoid making family friendly. Now that I've read this thread I am disappointed to find out there was a purple rain section I missed out on. I do have a copy of WDWGD with purple rain inserted in from a Minneapolis show and it was really freaking cool. I assumed it was a one time thing he would only do in Minnesota.Jahfin wrote:Yeah, but how is the music on the disc?
I will preface this by saying that I am Red Sox fan. The neat thing about this concert is that it was only the second concert ever to be played in Fenway. Maybe it is just that I grew up going to that park and seeing it in this DVD adds a ton of memories for me. Just my two cents. The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:It's cool to see a live show on DVD, but why not make it one of his regular stops. You could never get away from the fact that he was playing Fenway, in Boston, whoop dee doo. There are 28 other teams in MLB and according to the media, hollywood, television, music, everyone, all we ever hear about is Boston and New York. The rest of the country could care less about the Red Sox/Yankees. Personally I wish both teams would just fall to the bottom of the standings and we never have to hear about them again.
It was just disappointing to see Jimmy pandering to the already overhyped Red Sox. I would much rather see a DVD from a regular stop with an enormous lawn that looked more like a Parrothead party than a concert before a baseball game.
I'm sure it is and it is probably a very special DVD for you. But I'm watching it and thinking, where are the shark hats, where are the parrotheads. It seemed like a large part of the crowd was there primarily because it was a concert in Fenway. Hell, they didn't even have a tailgate. I wanna see a Buffett DVD with half naked women, beer bongs, vibrator races, all that fun stuff.green1 wrote:I will preface this by saying that I am Red Sox fan. I don't have an issue with the half (or fully) naked women but Buffett concerts were free of a lot of that other BS for a very long time, some of us come for the music, not for the sideshow (not that there's anything the matter with that). The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:I'm sure it is and it is probably a very special DVD for you. You've been seeing very different shows than I have then. Either that or you haven't sat on the lawn. (or tailgate for that matter).Jahfin wrote: I don't have an issue with the half (or fully) naked women but Buffett concerts were free of a lot of that other BS for a very long time,
Focus on the part where I say "were". I'm referring to the pre-Parrothead era when you could actually go to a show without having to worry about many of the things you do at the current shows. Don't get me wrong, that didn't stop me from going once the Parrothead thing took off but if asked to pick an era, I'd most definitely go with the pre-Parrothead time period. No offense intended towards the beak freaks. The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:You've been seeing very different shows than I have then. Either that or you haven't sat on the lawn. I read that wrong, I read it as saying his concerts have been rid of that for a long time now. I got on in 88, so I don't really remember much from before PH's.Jahfin wrote:Focus on the part where I say "were". I haven't attended a show in well over 10 years but that has more to do with most of them being on weeknights when he hits NC. Considering I'm generally a 3 hour (or more) drive away from the venues he plays it usually makes trying to attend out of the question. Add into that how extremely difficult it can be to obtain tickets and I think you'll understand why. I really don't have anything against those that call themselves Parrotheads or their activities at the shows, I just prefer when the concerts revolved more around the music than the spectacle (that goes for both audience and performer). The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:I read that wrong, I read it as saying his concerts have been rid of that for a long time now. Since you were around before, let me ask you this (I know this probably isn't the right place for it, but screw it). What do you think about the horns departing? Dont' ask me why, but I stopped going to shows for about 5 years at one point. the first show I saw when I came back, probably around 2000, I was a bit shocked. It's like he turned the coral reefers into some kind of big brass band. I've gotten used to it, but I can't say that I have ever really grown to like it. It just always seemed like a cheap way to make us forget about losing Fingers.
If you're not a politician you really missed your calling.Jahfin wrote: As for your horns question, since I haven't seen a show in so long it's hard to say but I have seen some footage and own a couple of the live DVDs. All I can say is, I won't miss the horns but have the utmost respect for those that were let go. I prefer the sound of "Fingers'" harp in the Coral Reefer Band.
Just trying to be diplomatic. The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:If you're not a politician you really missed your calling.Jahfin wrote: As for your horns question, since I haven't seen a show in so long it's hard to say but I have seen some footage and own a couple of the live DVDs.
