Blue Mood

Post by Goodman »

The new JJW compilation- Best of the Rest contains among much more -Blue Mood off the Navajo Rug album. I've heard JJW do the song one time but never had the luck to snag the Navajo Rug CD. The song details the occassional short bout with the blues and has references to Fred Neil, Stevie Ray Vaughn- Suzanna (they got her money) and John Henry.

Anybody got a clue on the last two references?

Thanks compadres

well... Suzannah did cry for him despite being admonished not to do so; and John Henry was a steel-drivin' man worried about bein replaced by a steam drill.

Thanks for the speedy reply but I'm not quite sure you're dead on track. I'm guessin old Jerry Jeff engineered this song with real lifers in mind. If I'm wrong (I often am) you' see it posted here soon.

He probably did. I was just taking a guess, and going for semi-comic relief.

Guess it's a little too early in the AM for me to catch the subtle nuances. :-)

Blue Mood

Post by Goodman »

After some light snooping and nosing around I've been infomed by a knowledgeable JJW source that Suzanna is likely Suzanna Clark -wife of the great Texas singer/songwriter Guy Clark. John Henr ----- is a Austin songwriter apparently separated from his royalties. Getting ripped off big time will definitely give you the blues.

Thanks for the info about that album. It looks like a great one although I have collected all JJW's albums.

I think you are right on there, Goodman. I heard that quote about Susanna somewhere else also. Along with some songwriting, she also did artwork for many albums.

Jerry Jeff often talks about the song, TO THE ARTIST. Check out that song. It's his comment about how much record companies TAKE from the artists. He sang it at the Austin Show for his 60th Birthday celebrated with a guy named Jimmy Buffett. He comes right out and says that it is about Fred Neil as he desired to withdraw from recording and had been stepped on by the "business."

Viva La Tried and True and indie labels. http://www.jerryjeff.com/bymail.html

You've got to sing like you don't need the money. You've got to love like you'll never get hurt. You've got to dance like there's nobody watching. You've got to come from the heart, if you want it to work. Susanna Clark

Thanks Conched and for the new song to look at. Shouldn't it be "The Artiste" as JJW pronounces it in Stoney? :-)

You got it, but if Fred Neil is the subject of the song than I'm sure you'd agree that JJW wouln't have applied it to Fred.

The artiste is how he referred to the friend in Stoney.

Now, To The Artist, is a whole nother story...and it is about Fred Neil. If you would like to hear the show dedicated to Fred Neil, let me know.
