Bowl Games

Has anyone travelled to college bowl games? Atlanta is hosting two games this year, but early predictions say the game I want to go to is in Dallas.
For those of you that have travelled to a game, I have a few questions.
- When did you buy tickets?
Did you get them through a broker or wait and get them from a scalper?
What do I need to know that I don't?

Been to SEVERAL FSU Bowl games.... I get a mailer about the last week in November.... buy them thru the school.
Only other Bowl game I was at was Ohio State and SC a few years ago @ the Outback Bowl in Tampa. Mr. Top is a OSU grad .... and we bought them the day they went on sale from the Outback Bowl website. It sold out in 1 day I think!
They are SO much fun! I was at the national Championship game in 1993 which was AWESOME!!

Hmmmm, not an alumni or a season ticket holder. Maybe my fiancee has some connections through the athletic department.

Nice thing about that is its just a Bowl ticket.... and good for whatever bowl your team goes to. However go to the websites of the Games you are considering and buy tickets the day they go on sale.... of course it is more risky depending on which bowl you are talking about....

Went to the 2001 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville Clemson vs Virginia Tech. Bought them off the Virginia Tech message boards for 30 bucks each 2 weeks before the game. (Game was on Jan 1)
Whatever Bowl Game you decide to attend, make sure to check how the fans of the two teams in the bowl travel and the size of the stadium. Both the Hokies and Tigers brought about 20k each and there were still pleanty of tickets left.
Get to the stadium 3 to 4 hours before kickoff and tailgate and soak in all the fun. A bowl game is a totally different atmosphere than a regular college game. We got to Alltel Stadium for a 12:30 kickoff at 9am and went stright to the Budwesier Tailgate. Cost 5 bucks each but you got a ton of free stuff and had pleanty to do before you went to the game.
Unless you have friends in the bowl city your going to that you can stay with, book your hotel early or A you will be SOL or B you will be in BFE. or C you will be SOL in BFE

Finally just have fun

Hey Wayne....I've heard a few predictions that Clemson may be there this year. Ready for some more orange on that blue field?
Landshark--I agree with pretty much everything Alan11 and Topless said--I've been to many bowl games, and it is a ton of fun. Buy tickets early. They can sell pretty fast, depending on the team (not as fast as a JB concert, but Clemson has sold out tickets in less than a day before). I've bought tickets both through Clemson and through the bowl--the main advantage of buying them through your school is that you are pretty much guaranteed to be sitting with your fellow fans (rather than those from the opposing team.)
There is almost always some sort of tailgate party you can go to (for a price) but they are usually fun. We always go down a few days early and hang out in the city wherever the bowl is--it is a cool bonding experience to see all the other fans from your school around at bars and restaurants, wearing their school colors.
Wish I could go wherever Clemson is bowling this year.....want to wait until the 'keet is a little older, though.
