? about Peter Mayer

I hope it's okay to ask this here.....I really wasn't sure where to put it..
My children love Peter Mayer's Stars & Promises CD. As a matter of fact, they're already listening to it, and it's not even Thanksgiving yet !
My question is this: I was on his website, and he is doing a show in Georgia in a few weeks at a Baptist church. We would love to go see him, despite the fact that it is about an hour and a half from here. Has anyone here ever gone to one of his shows at a church ? The church's website says that the concert is free, first come, first served. I would hate to make the trip with the kids, and be turned away at the door. Do these shows get that crowded? How long is the performance ?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer.

I've only been to Peter's Stars and Promises shows where you needed a ticket, so not sure about how fast it will fill up. I think I'd be inclined to be quite early.
The show is absolutely fantastic!! Some traditional Christmas music, some original, much like the Stars and Promises Alive album. The performance usually lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, with an intermission.
You will NOT be sorry if you make the trek!!!

You should DEFINITLY go!!! I guarentee it will be an experience equal to seeing Buffett. I saw him for the first time in 2003 at his Christmas show, now 2 years later I've seen him 7 times and am producing my 2nd show.
You will be amazed by the musicianship that his group brings out, and just how wonderful the performance is. This year they will bring out some brand new material, and play a bunch of the classics off of the S&P CD's (as well as a few other songs that have always had a good response).
The show will be completely worth it. If it wernt a school night I'd try and convince my parents to drive down for it!

The whole family will love it
(not to mention..more than likely it will be a chance to meet Peter and the band face to face after the show)
The show will proabily fill up fast. Not sure how big the church is, but try to be there as close to when the doors open as possible to get a close seat.
FYI for this year---I'm not sure what shows do and dont have an intermission, but Columbus will not.
WHAT JEN SAID...IF YOU GO, YOU WOLNT BE SORRY!!!

Without question go!!! You will all be uplifted by the message and the music. I have bought my daughter's family tickets for PHMatt's show in Columbus and some for Peter's show here in PA for me. John

GO......you and your children will be glad you went. It's a good size church and it was not full last year. Well worth the 1.5 hour drive.

Equal to seeing Buffett? In a church? With kids? I've never seen his show, so I can't really comment, but that's a pretty tall order!

The Stars and Promises Alive tour has a different vibe, certainly. People actually
sit for the show....
But the musicianship of the people playing is absolutely incredible, the music itself is truly a blessing, and it's a show I'd travel a *long* way to see.
Except for the sitting down part, yep, sounds sorta like a Buffett show.....

The Mayer Brothers are fantastic musicians. I brought some non parrot head friends to see them and they were blown away by their ability. They hav since shut up about Buffett's band not being that good. So go see the show, it is great in it's own right, but don't expect anything "Buffett" about it. These guys are not going to play Christmas in the Carribean so don't expect it. Unlike Scott Kirby or the BaHa Brothers, they have little in common with Buffett music other than they are hired to play in his band, and play well they do.

An excellent show to be sure. You will not be disappointed. Although it is a different experience than seeing JB, it is always a good time. It is a fun event and going as a family will put you in the holiday spirit. Much of the music is original and there is a spiritual side to it, although not in an overbearing, "preachy" way. There are more musicians than at a usual PM show and they all get an opportunity to showcase their talent. Sometimes there are special guests. I will not forget going to see S&P in Nashville last year when Jeff Coffin (of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones fame) showed up and played with the group on a couple of tunes! It isn't Christmas at our house until we see Stars and Promises for the season!

True fact. But they probably WILL include some combination of:
Sing Joy
This Christmas
Harmony
Faith in Angels
The Story of Christmas
Hey Joseph
WOOOO-HOOOOOO!!! I can't wait!!!
(Matt, see you in Taunton.
