I feel it means the person dubbed as #2 could continue to bond the parrothead nation. JUST MHO.
and that is not what I was asking I
was looking for the person who sells the most cds
and who plays to the biggest crowds
and who travels the most..
lets all face this right now
Jimmy was an Accident. A wonderus and great Accident
but none the less.........
you can no way plan his career..
If that is that criteria and J.J. (Jerry Jeff?) is not eligible, then there is no "number 2" for the reasons I previously stated. I could say Todd Snider but he doesn't seem to fit folks definition around here of a "Buffett-like" performer since he seems to have more in common with Buffett the troubadour as opposed to present day Buffett.

IMO there is no second choice. I judge each artist on their own merit. Jimmy's talent extends way beyond the music.... Its the message. Once Jimmy stops touring.... ParrotHeads will find other outlets to express themselves... many of which I assume will be phlockings and charity support...just as we do now.

Speaking just for myself, my life doesn't revolve around Jimmy Buffett (or any other artist for that matter) to the point that I feel I will have to find another artist to follow once he decides to hang it up. Same goes for the Grateful Dead following Jerry Garcia's death. I haven't seen Buffett in concert for nearly 10 years which has nothing to do with Buffett and his slide towards rampant commercialism but more to do with not being able to get away on weeknights when he usually tends to play here (NC).

Now, now.. I did not say he wasn't eligible, I only said I didn't agree with him being #2 because he could not carry the parrothead nation after Jimmy quits.

Definitely agree with Larry about Jim Morris, great music - not a lot of "personality"
One I have not seen mentioned is KD Moore.
http://www.kdmoorejr.com/
He is newer to the game than most of those listed, but his "Headin' South" CD is excellent. He plays frequently with Greg "Fingers" Taylor, and the two of them together put on an incredible show every time! His second CD will be released in January, and it has Greg on all but two of the tracks.
KD played at my bday party in the backyard this year. Great guy, good solid guitar performer, has some good songs of his own.
Honestly, I like Mark Mulligan the best of them all but I am not sure where he ranks sales wise and he doesn't tour much in the USA. Generally when he does it's Arizona.
Also, this thread hasn't talked about Johnny Russler and band but these guys really do a great show.
I just went to KD's web site.
I like these lyrics for Dance Like Nobody's Watching. They remind me of my favorite Guy Clark song.
There's a warm breeze blowin'..you know what to do
hoist the main sail I'll be there in a few
the moon is shinin'..gonna show us the way
a late night ride on the waves like two dolphins at play..
And we'll dance… out here nobody's watching
we'll drink tequilla and howl at the moon.
and we'll love…like it's our first and last time
laugh at ourselves and the things we do…make the most of a late night rendezvous
I've got one dance left I'll save it for you..

I wasn't refering to what you said but to what the person that started the thread said:
ragtopW wrote:I AM NOT looking for A.J. or K.C. or J.J
and I am not looking for "the next"
...and I'm not at all concerned about who to go see after Buffett calls it quits. I go see a bunch of artists year 'round, I'm not bound to just one. That's not to say Buffett won't be missed, he most definitely will but life goes on.
