Mine came from the referral of a friend, who happens to be a realtor.
The cleaning lady works in the area off of only referrals, no advertising, no corporate expense. I feel more comfortable that way because I know it's the same 2 girls every week.
Asking around locally is a great idea.

Ok. Imagine doing that for 4 people (2 of which are young children that get very, very dirty and sometimes poopy). Plus the ironing/hanging. Then add cooking dinner every night (for 4), cleaning the kitchen (1-2x per day), vaccuming (daily in some parts of the house), bathrooms (3 of them 1x per week). Oh yeah, and I'm away from the house from what amounts to about 10 hours per day, and twice a week I'm not home until 7pm because of BBall practice and when I am home I'm also the homework monitor and taking care of a toddler who is potty training.
So, yes, I can see how it is simple for YOU to do a load of laundry, but for me, even though I can get it all washed and dried while I'm doing the other stuff around the house...it's close to 11pm before I can even fold it or even think about getting it put away.

My mom has someone come every other week. Mom does the "picking up" before she comes because the maid is paid by the hour and mom wants her to spend her time on the big stuff. Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, bathrooms, etc. She changes the sheets... mom gets hers in the dryer before she leaves and my bro's in the washer.. the maid puts George's in the dryer while she is there. A couple of times a year mom will pay for a little more time to have the cabinets cleaned out... sometimes she leaves a list with a special request like cleaning out the fridge. She has always used a person and not a company... always either a friend or someone highly referenced
When I get my house I will look into someone coming in once a month as money will be very tight

I'm thinkin' that's the plan. I think my daughter's school is prolly a really good place to start askin'. I like the idea of getting to have my own "list" for the person every week.

Yeah, it's been easy since the kids left (cleaning-wise, that is), but we DO have two dogs that, although don't wear clothes that we have to do laundry for, they do shed frequently, which means LOTS of vacuuming & carpet shampooing. I didn't say I LIKE doing any of those things, just that, as long as it doesn't involve ironing or dusting, I DON'T MIND doing it. I'll ALWAYS hate ironing and dusting.
But as far as maid services go, I don't know what they charge these days, but if you can afford it, and if it's what you want, and if it'll make your life easier, hell, GO FOR IT.

Put it this way Garry...I'm considering giving up cigarettes forever so I can have someone come do housework for me!!

That's how bad I want it. We can't afford it unless we nix something else, and that's kinda what's on the chopping block right now.
I hate doing most housework. Surprisingly, doing the bathrooms doesn't bug me too much 'cause I'm just picky on how I like them. It wouldn't hurt my feelings though, to let someone else scrub my toilets though!

Not if I can't pay someone else to do it.
I'd rather pay someone to clean so I can actually spend some "fun" time with my kids.

Your schedule sounds like "spring break" compared to ours.

That is an excellent idea!! You will be highly rewarded for your good behavior of not smoking!! I quit a few years ago, you can do it!!
I justify it because I don't get manicures/pedi/tips or any of that other stuff that people spend tons on around here.
I don't leave a list, they see what needs to be done and do it!!
They see stuff that I miss. Mine clean the fridge/micro. Empty all the trash cans and wipe them down. It's pure heaven I tell ya!!!
When I had them every other week, I used to sometimes try other people on the off week (somehow the off week always fell when we were entertaining!) Just to see if someone else would be better.

That was the Readers Digest version.

I can see how yours might be crazier with 3 though. Our biggest challenge right how is just about every minute of Matt's time is being spent finishing the all new drywall we put in our living room/dining room (which is about 1/4 of our whole house)--so he hasn't really been available to help around the house. Not to mention all the dust that kicks up and such. Once that area is finished, we have to remodel both our upstairs bathrooms and part of two bedrooms because of a mold problem, further keeping hubby from being much help with all the day-to-day stuff.
It'll get nutsier when BBall games actually start and we get into the full swing of all the holiday stuff we hafta do.

Try adding a third job to the parental unit mix. I'm up at 5 each morning I will literally be on my feet until 9 tonight when the kids are put to bed while Mrs works her second job.

Well, I really have been searching for motivation to quit and having a clean house would REALLLY be an awesome return.

And if you drop the cig's, the house will seem (see smell) cleaner anyway

I do that every day Cubbie. It's called being "mom".

Actually it's more like 5-8:00 though. 8-9pm is "me" time which usually means whatever TV show is on that I like or BN time, then 9-11 is whatever is left of the housework. The house being remodeled is a lot like a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th) job sometimes.

We don't smoke inside, but it will definitely free up some time!

However, I HATE ironing. about the only things I iron are my work uniforms and my dress shirts. My wife has offered to iron these for me, but if I can't stand doing it, how can I expect her to like it?
Most other household chores aren't too bad, but I DO wish the "dust fairy" would quit paying so many visits here.
So, to answer the original question-I'll do just about any type of housework and not complain about it with the exception of dusting and ironing.
(Yes, I do windows).
are you inexpensive??? I may need you.

Good God, Mal-GIVE UP smoking and get yourself a maid/cleaning service. You'll win TWICE! Once now, and once in the long run.
