My department just switched to Starbucks coffee...

because our VP wants fewer people to leave the office for "good" coffee.

Even though it costs more $$ (capital), the theory is the employees will work harder/better/more.

Thoughts?

it depends. People will like the coffee. But if they want mocha frappuccino they'll still leave to go to the local coffee place. It's a nice move on the mgmts. side. It depends on how much they think they'll get out of it.

This will actually be measurable...we'll all see if your average posts per day decreases or not... :D

We get free coffee and it's been Starbucks for as long as I can remember. I'd rather have Brand X coffee than Starbucks, I think it sucks.

  I doubt it. I hardly ever leave to go for coffee and drank what was in the office anyway. If I stopped for a mocha, I'd do it on my way into the office.

I don't think I've ever actually had a plain cup of Starbucks until today. I usually get a mocha.

Mal don't worry, Frank only has a few friends so he won't go and shun you

Also, why on earth does anyone pay $4 or more for a cup of coffee?

I like coffee but sheesh

You're right. He needs me. He wants me.

I pay $3.50 for a grande mocha every-other Friday when I get paid. It's my special 'lil treat. :D Aside from that, it's the free stuff in the break room.

because they can? Any employer who doesn't at least provide free regular coffee, isn't worth working for.

I actually included savings on coffee that mike won't drink at work
in my rough draft proposal for working at home
I figured odds were against them having an obscure sense of humor like me so I cut it

btw, I should find out soon if that's actually a possibility, my boss liked it but we have to get it past his boss :pirate:

Ooohhhh!!! That's great Mike!! I think coffee-savings is a valid expense on a proposal like that. I would have included it, especially if you drink a lot of coffee!

Our VP is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed and very much NOT in touch with real working people. Not to mention, going for coffee is also largely a networking and creative opportunity. I don't think she'll see an increase in productivity, although there might be an increase in morale (but that has more to do with our improving stock price than anything else).
