Left or Right

Borrowed the wifes car today and of course it needed gas. Her tank is on the left side (drivers), while my car is on the right side. Which got me thinking, which is never a good thing. Which side do you have to fill-up on?

And does anyone know if there is a rhyme or reason to the switches of sides?
(Both our cars are Ford years 2000 but she has the Explorer and I have a Mustang)

I voted left because that's how it is on our truck, the primary vehicle.

It's on the right for our car.

For me it depends. For my sister's car it is on the driver side, my car when I had one was like this. My parents cars are on the passenger side.

Other - Jeep is on driver side and Land Rover is on passenger side.

My reasoning on why the Mustang has the tank on the passenger side is because the doors swing out so wide. (Please note: nothing factual, just a guess.)

Mine in this car is on the passenger's side which is very strange for me because mine has always been on the driver's side. I sometimes still forget and drive up to the wrong size! :)

How do you put gas in a car that is upside down? :o

Actually, in addition to the left/right issue, I'm guessing we will also get to hear about petrol vehicles versus gas vehicles. :P

Trucks and Vans usually have it on the Left hand side. Some other cars do too...

Seems mostly "sportslike" cars have it on the right hand side.

Taurus and Explorer: Passenger side
Jeep: Driver's side

(I mostly drive the Fords, but occasionally forget -- have to check side-view mirrors)
