I remember laying in bed on Christmas eve...nervous as all hell. I remember my parents would tell me that Santa wouldn't come if I was awake...and I was so nervous just worrying about whether or not I could fall asleep or not.

Larry was a kid??? OK!!! That explains why everyone calls him an "old goat"! 8)
I remember the Sears and Roebucks Wishbook and knowing Christmas was near. The smell of the ambrosia and the tree. The fresh fruit and nuts.
I have not seen or had any sweet chestnuts since those days. I remember someone had a bunch of buckeyes and THANK GOD they told us what they were.

About a year after Dad had got out of the Navy and roughly his first year at home....he had went to work in a shipyard in another state, and was lucky if he could make it home every few months....Texaco had a tanker truck or some sort of semi type truck that I really wanted. Dad came home sick as a dog.......and did not feel well at all, so we did not get to see much of him and he came in the house with not so much as a packet of jelly from whatever restaurant he would stop in. The next morning Santa came in multitudes for us and there was the truck sitting there with a big red bow on it. Among numerous other toys and gifts. Dad was sick the whole time he was home but he and the rest of us, got a lot of joy that Christmas.

When I was a kid we had to walk 5 miles through the snow to get to school. I figure with all the smart asses here I should make a pre-emptive strike.
Uphill? Both ways?
Hey!
I walked about a mile to school; it snowed often, and is WAS uphill both ways!
We lived on the middle of a hill, and the neighbor and I walked up it every morning, I usually came home from the other direction, which meant walking uphill to get to our house!

SNOW???You guys had snow???? Man you had no troubles.... you should have had to face the skeeters, the sandgnats, the deer and yellow flies, yellow jackets, wasps. They could pick you and carry you away .....usually in the wrong direction from your home and then you had briars and snapping turtles, gar fish, and snakes of various spiecies and alligators too along with the muck and mud.
You guys had it EASY!!
