boy can Jimmy paint a picture

Post by Capttony »

I was thinking this morning, that on alot of Jimmys ballads he can make you feel like your right there with him in a certain situation. Its a pretty special talent. So i started to go through all the songs that he is able to put you in a place with him. So the question is....what one JB song makes you feel like your in that moment with jimmy.....

Mine is When the coast is clear....

While Jimmy's doing the singing to paint the picture in our minds, I think you also have to give major credit to Jimmy's co-writers and in some cases, the song's writer.

Way to hard to pick just one, and they change with my mood, anyway, but:

When the Coast is Clear...
"I come down to talk to me
When the coast is clear"

Tonight I Just Need My Guitar
"Sometimes more than others
You see who and what and where
You are"

Changing Channels
"Girl of a thousand faces
From a long line of basket cases..."

"She's changing channels
Stayin' on her toes
She's just changin' channels
As she goes"
Carry on as you know they would want you to do. ~~JB, dedication to Tim Russert

Find your passion
Life goes on until it ends
Don’t stop living
Until then

ditto, while many of the songs mentioned are awesome, for some reason this song in particular always makes me wanna close my eyes and allow myself to be taken away for a few minutes. It's one of the things closest to real magic that i have ever seen.

good topic by the way.

Lucky Stars
Woke up just the other day
Fell out of bed and my dog ran away.
The car won't start and the weather was cold and gray.
I got stuck in a traffic jam,
My major meeting didn't go as I planned.
Looks like it's gonna be another one of those days.

Manana
Called all my friends on those cheap nightly rates
Sure was good to talk to the old United States
While the lights of St. Thomas lie twenty miles west
I see General Electric's still doing their best.

And there are plenty more I'm sure!

Well said.
This song came into my mind the second I saw the topic.

So many others, too. That's why I love Jimmy so.

I love threads like this, because they point out that while we all love Jimmy's music, we often focus on different aspects of it.

While I like "That Was the Night I Painted the Sky," it's not one of JB's songs that really reaches out and grabs me, but it obviously is for a number of other folks.... fascinating.... :D

I understand.

I think more of parts like:

Following my song lines through bamboo shacks and shops,
in a jitney packed like sardines and bananas piled on top

or

New Year's Eve in Zanzibar with Babu and the boys,
High up on the rooftops you can relish all the noise,
Dancing on the tables people bouncing like gazelles,
2-0-0-1 is ushered in with air raid horns and bells.

Time to sing, time to dance,
Maybe now's my second chance,
Cobras and sleeping bags are coiled and curled,
That's the way it happens on the Far Side of the World.

How strange this topic come up.
Just last night I was listening to "African Friend" as I lay in the lazy boy about to doze.
I felt as if I could see events that take place in the the song in my mind.

Everytime that I hear "Banana Republics" I picture people on a Costa Rican beach at night having a good time.

Thinking about it, I'd say this song as a whole provides me with the most imagery. Love it love it love it!

actually, I *do* like that song.... a lot.... the imagery is great....

but what it mostly reminds me of now are:
1) listening to it on RM at 3:00AM, in the middle east, during MOST of the FSOTW tour, while chatting with friends on BN and jimmydreamz... *sniff*

2) listening to it during the last few shows of the FSOTW tour while standing with some of the same people, in person.... *WAHHH* :D  :D

Glad you made it home safely. :D

That's one of the best things about FSOTW...home -- to family, friend, guitar, etc. -- is at the other end of that adventurous road. :)
