I'm having 3 of them simultaneously today.

Re-gifting is perfectly acceptable if:
1) You received the gift as a Dirty Santa/White Elephant gift to start with (aka it wasn't directly intended for you, it was just luck of the draw). So you can give it to someone else (although it's generally considered bad form to give it to the person who brought it to the party to start with.

);
2) The gift is not personalized but, for some reason, cannot be returned; or
3) You know for sure that the person you're giving it to will actually like and appreciate it (at least more than you do).
Note: with the exception of the aforementioned fruitcake, these rules do not apply to the following:
--food products
--opened bottles of alcohol (not that any of us would have any left over to regift anyway

)
--live animals
--dead animals
--underwear/lingerie (unless you're into that kind of thing--not that there's anything wrong with that)
--anything that involves white-out (see the card discussion above)
--photo albums (which, unless pre-filled with pictures of cute grandkids or naked women--not the same person, ideally

--should never be given as gifts anyway)
This list is not inclusive, but should give you a good starting point. Happy regifting!!!

It was a gift to my sister who just got moved to a CUBICLE! I guess they were trying to tell her she has to listen to Buffett privately NOW.
She already has one, maybe two, while her poor sister
had none.

I'm tempted to regift the present I got from my brother and sister-in-law. It's worthless to me... a trunk organizer thing. I'm sure my sister-in-law got it in the bargain bin at TJ Maxx. If there wasn't such a long history of worthless, non-returnable gifts from them, I wouldn't be so salty... but I wish I could just box it up and give it to someone else.
But I can't figure out how to fold up up to put it back in the box.

I thought...who the hell uses a
trunk anyway??? Mark Twain???
Then remembered that most people have a trunk in their car.
Maybe if I had one of those thingies in my Tahoe, I wouldn't keep cramming things in the pocket behind my seats??!!

I've done it when I've received doubles of something (CD, book, DVD). I know someone else will enjoy it!

sort of.
I bought Season 4 of Seinfeld for myself this last spring.
Never even unwrapped the plastic.
Now, I'm thinking about making it a gift... that wouldn't be so bad, would it?
