One year I bought my plane ticket pretty early, probably in June. Another time I didn't buy it until September. But that was before the price of oil went through the roof.Sidew13 wrote:Question about Air Line Tickets for the first time buyer.....

we find it cheaper to fly into Ft.L or Mia and drive from there, plus we like the drive down the keys. Plus we share the car with about 4 people so that helps too. Flying into Key West is expencive. I like having a car too. There are enough lots downtown to park in and you dont have to wait for a shuttle. When we went shopping we dumped stuff off at the car, made a drink out of the cooler etc.

woooo my god, have fairs gone up that much?? It's never cost more than 200 to fly to Florida. Maybe you should drive north and then fly south..lol. Or how about renting a car for the whole thing? Wear and tear on someone elses car.Sidew13 wrote:$430 to fly GSP to FLL
$370 to fly GSP to MIA
but then there's the rental car cost, gas, etc.....
or $437 to fly GSP to EYW. Once in Key West, ride BIKES. No gas, great work out, and can get around better than cars and mopeds

to fly out of Charlotte, NC is $40 cheaper but it's a 2.5 hour drive. Atlanta is $20 cheaper but still 2.5 hours away. Renting a car still involves the gas, hotel, food, and time cost. Besides, a rental would just sit in a parking spot for the whole week, wasting moneyphotogal wrote:woooo my god, have fairs gone up that much?? It's never cost more than 200 to fly to Florida. giggling/drooling/crying uncontrollably tends to put the stewardess off her paces when giving the important lecture about disabling bathroom smoke detectors and drop-down oxygen masks.

You might want to try priceline.com or hotwire.com and name your price to see if you can get your fare cheaper.Sidew13 wrote:Now that we've established that flying would be cheaper, thank you R2, back to the question.......

Also smartertraveler.com has some tips and a newsletter they send out with specials.
I would wait a little while before I booked... but I am a bit of a gambler on booking flights. Also late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning seems to be the best time to get a deal.
Good luck.

I've never been a fan of Priceline.com. I'd rather know what I'm getting into BEFORE I pay. And I just checked hotwire.com and they were actually higher than Travelocity.comCandyLMT wrote:You might want to try priceline.com or hotwire.com and name your price to see if you can get your fare cheaper.Sidew13 wrote:Now that we've established that flying would be cheaper, thank you R2, back to the question.......

Joe... I hate to throw something else at you here, but you can also check expedia.com and sign up for their fare tracker service. They'll update you and let you know if the fare has changed or there is a deal for selected cities.Sidew13 wrote:I've never been a fan of Priceline.com. Travelocity has the same service too. Think you can set it for up to 6 destinations, tho might only be 4.CandyLMT wrote:Joe...
