A Veteran with a combat related service-connected disability rated at 80% receives less than $15,000 per year. You go tell him to work at McDonald's - I'm sure the Golden Arches will jump at the chance to employ a guy with no legs and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
agreed- that stinks as well
it's damn hard to support a family on McDonalds pay
ya minimum wage jobs make it hard to do...it's even hard to support just ONE person on that kind of income. The cost of living is lower in this state, so alot of the salaries are lower.

The starting income for a reporter in this state: $15,000 (so now you know why i'm not wanting to be a reporter!)

if it's old enough that it has mine cut diamonds that would add to the value.
Actually, looking at the setting, that almost looks more custom than old, but I could be wrong.

For 15k, you're probably not buying a store standard setting.

Which is not hard to believe. Cripes, I'd still love to know where my engagement ring that I lost went to :x

yep...mine is a custom setting now....in PLATINUM....I treated myself last Christmas...didn't just want to sell the diamond because I would have gotten NOTHING!! But I got the platinum setting on-sale...they tweaked it to customize it and did the work for free and it trippled the value of my ring...

Who the hell makes less than 15K a year. Plus, the dude may make a whole crapload more than that. It doesnt make him a bad dude. Actually, giving the ring away was pretty cool
Quite a few folks make less than that.

And I never said he was a bad guy, I just said he doesn't peak my pity-meter.
a) that kind of sounds dirty
b) there are jobs any and everywhere, so who's making less than 15k? Time for them to switch it up. Even at McDonalds you make more.
depends on where you are. Job market conditions determine pay rates; and NYC is not the prevailing wage for everywhere.

Reality Check.....

My 1.75 engagement diamond appraises for around $15,600. I have papers to prove it. However I can PROMISE you that Mr. Topless paid NO WHERE near that amount. In fact... its not even in the same galaxy. Just because something appraises at one amount does not mean that is what you pay retail.

However.... the story is pretty sad... :(

DeBeere's (and I might have spelled that wrong) is the big diamond monopoly. It helps them if everyone goes out and spends 17% of their pre-tax income on a "pretty, shiney rock"
