Christmas blah's
I don't post much, just decided to reach out. I am having a very difficult time with this time of year. No family here, long term relationship just ended. NO ONE to spend Christmas morning with, except of course my dog. I have a 23 foot boat with no captain. Drinking is not helping. Any suggestions? Thought about just getting in my car with the dog and head to the keys, but can't bring myself to go alone.

You could always volunteer to help feed the homeless?
I am on my own from the afternoon on this year - but have proactively gone and searched out a friend that is in the same boat - so we are going to go for a meal somewhere and a little gambling.
Do you have friends who you could drop a hint to and they could invite you over???

Sorry to hear this. My only advice is to stop selling your dog short. I'd rather spend time with my dog than with 95 % of the people out there. You won't find better companionship or more unconditional love...
Throw the pooch in the car, and hit the keys. Sound like a sure-fire cure for the blues to me!

Technicalities....
she ain't got a boat
Yes honey, I am. Just lending a little goofy-ness. Not to make lite of your situation. I have spent holidays alone and there can be no good from it, if you let it consume you.. I also found it was a good time to take stock and contemplate the next move. Sometimes alone is better than pretending to enjoy the company you have
What the dork said about your dog is true too. Although I have met few dogs that would prefer his company. Sorry, joking around again.
Seriously. Talk with whom ever you can. there are a lot of great BN people in your area, maybe somebody can help.
Hang in ther sweetie, it'll be OK

Sorry SullyGirl ~ I don't know what to suggest... would it make it better or worse if you went to places where families may be gathering for the holidays... church, restaurants, the Mall, etc

Sullygirl-think about what things make you happy, whether it is a favorite food, movie or whatever, and treat yourself to whatever it is.
A zillion years ago, my ex moved out a week before Christmas, and my dad was in the final stages of his battle with cancer. I can't begin to tell you what I did that day or how I got through it, but I did.
I have spent several holidays alone. I fix a nice breakfast make myself a really good dinner, and, and curl up with some favorite books and music and enjoy the day.
And reach out to others when you need to---friends, other family, fellow parrotheads.

Like Frankie said, don't sell your dog short. My dog has brought me more christmas cheer at times than any of my relatives and family simply because he can find more joy in a balled up piece of paper than the most expensive gift under the tree.
I would definitely think about taking the pooch to the keys. Enjoy some peace with yourself (though I know that can be easier said than done). If all else fails, you could always go to the movies, or head on down to a diner or similar place that is open on Christmas.
Or hang out here. I'm sure there will be enough of us on trying to avoid our families from time to time
All the best to you, and I truly hope you do have a good Christmas.

take 95 south and head for the keys. I am sure you'll find someone there to share a great drink and a few stories with.SullyGirl wrote:I don't post much, just decided to reach out. I would agree with Frank on that, go treat yourself to a day of pampering. I hope the Spirit of the season touches your heart this Christmas.rednekkPH wrote:How about treating yourself to a spa treatment, or some similar method of really pampering/spoiling yourself?

I'm so glad you posted SG. That's what these boards are for. If you want to go to the keys, go.
Believe me having a dog and no strings attached is better then being with the wrong person. There are times I wish I was in that situation. I have sometimes chosen the wrong person rather then being alone. Always a bad move. As others have said consider volunteering to serve christmas dinner. It would give you something to look forward to. Post on here. I'm sure some of us will pop in to talk. For future reference definitely get to know some PH's who live near you. If you lived closer i'd invite you over in a heartbeat or get together for a couple drinks in the evening.
