This is the first I've heard of this - just wanted to pass it along to other pet owners who may have also missed it.

I'm thinking that this is the end of this company. 600+ dogs dead so far, and it only takes one or two people to sue.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

Yeah, it's not looking good for the company, but they are trying to make good by covering vet bills, etc. Even without legal action, that's a lot of $ to lose.

Vet bills aren't cheap, especially when they will have to run tests and agressively treat the problem. I'm willing to say thousands each.

Another pet item I just heard about the other day was the danger of a dog treat called Greenies.

http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/greenies.asp

Our German Shepherd used to eat these all the time....but no more after some of the research I did on the web regarding the number of dogs these treats have killed. :( :(

Things like these make me worry so much....especially since you don't know until your pet is visibly sick (since they can't tell you when they start to not feel well).

Almost makes me want to make my own dog food from scratch :(

Dogs can't eat chocolate baked goods.

Actually, they can eat white chocolate, and regular chocolate in very small doses (though none at all is always best)

Or larger doses, as my dog proved when he ate a whole tray of brownies two years ago and didn't even get at all sick. :o I stayed up all night with the vet calling me back every two hours :o I got reeeaall lucky.

My girlfriend is a vet and she said that a ridiculous number of cases that came in over the holidays were peeps leaving food wrapped under the tree or the dog getting into the baked goods. Although the most priceless ones are when the dog eats the pot brownies & gets high too.

It was a pre-requisite, however, she is not a marine biologist.

there are few things funnier than an already less than intelligent dog gets high (not that I would know anything about that  )

Back in the dark ages (before we knew chocolate wasn't good for dogs), our dog LOVED Hershey kisses.
She would be asleep and if someone unwrapped one, she would be begging for it before you finished unwrapping it :D
She lived to be 13 years old.

My GF is in Vet School and works at a Vet Clinic part time. The discount we get alone saves us a lot of money every year.

One time our dog went a day in a half without eating so we had the Vet runs all sorts of blood work and tests and they all came back OK. The problem, the most obvious thing, we bought him new food and he didn't like it so he wan't eating it. We reverted back to his old food and he wouldn't stop eating.

We feed him Canidae dog food. It is expensive but vets say it is one of the best available.

we feed AJ Canidae too. He loves it although sometimes it can be hard to find as most places don't carry it.

It is hard to find. There is place near me who almost always has it or they can order it.

The vet at her clinic lways tells clients.
Rule of thumb, if the dog food is sold in a super market's Walmart, Target etc... it isn't good dog food.
