Beginner Guitar

I've owned a guitar for over 10 years now and have never been able to play it. A friend of mine is determined to teach me and began tonight with teaching me the G, C, and D chord. I know it's gonna take some time, but I can't wait to start playing songs. My question is..................

What are some extremely easy songs out there that I can learn to play rather quickly? I really want to learn some Buffett, but I'm up for anything that's incredibly easy. Thanks!

Ha! You & I are probably the only 2 pholks in Tennesse who own guitars & don't know how to play 'em! I keep thinking that "Someday I Will..." but I don't know. At the very least, I'll pass it along to one of my great-neices or -nephews. Surely someone in the family has the knack...

Once you learn those chords you'll be addicted.
I looked at my guitar for a year before I actually decided to start playing it.
Margaritaville is easy
You'll need to learn an "A" chord for that...but it's an easy chord.

Southern Cross is also pretty easy

There are too many 3 chord songs to name

G A D and E will get you a good 50% of Buffett's catalog.

go pick up a beginner guitar book of chords and use the major chords and just practice them. Those chords will enable you to play a LOT of songs.

There's a Musician's Corner at ************.com

http://www.************.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=24

Couple dudes there play and have put several threads together with tabs and such (I don't play so I'm not sure exactly what I'm talking about), but might be a helpful place to start as well.

Looks like we're in the same boat - except I'm tryin to decide what guitar to buy. I've been playin around with my daughter's guitar for the past month or so. Bought myself The Jimmy Buffett Guitar Anthology book so that I could play some tabs. I'm just now tryin to put chords together. Too bad GOD graced me with short stubby fingers instead of long skinny "guitar playin" fingers. :( It's amazing how tired your fingers and wrist can get after playing for awhile. I'd recommend getting the JB anthology book..... has 24 songs in it for about $25. Good luck to you Bob Roberts...and remember......you ain't playin enough if your fingers ain't bleeding. :D

try to learn ANY Woody Guthrie song. Usuallly pretty simple (NO always simple) and straitght to the point. You can just do a google and search for Woody Guthrie guitar tabs, if not let me know and I can find some. That'll get you started real quick. Roll on Columbia is one that comes to mind, like only two or three cords in the whole song.

Good Luck!

Once you learn the positioning for some common chords, head over to COBO and check out the Great Chords Compilation.

With just a couple of more simple chords and you'll be playing one of my favorites in no time..... 8) 8) 8) 8)
Brahma Fear
By: Jimmy Buffett
1974

Intro: G Am7 D G Am7 D

G Am7 D G Am7 D
I'd like to ride the rodeo, but I've got brahma fear
G Am7 D G Am7 D
So I'll just stick to aeroplanes, gently pop my ears
F C G F C D
Drink a lot of whiskey, it gives me such a glow
G Am7 D Am D G
It makes me quite immobile, but it lets my feelings show

C D G
And I'm somewhere below the spotlight
C D Em
Somewhere below the ground
C A7
You dig deep enough you might find me
C D G
Find me and you've found my sound

Yes I own a whaler boat, it slides across the sea
And some folks say I'm part of it
And I know it's part of me
When I'm feeling solitaire, it lets me be alone
And when I want to habitate, it carries me back home

Chorus:
And I'm somewhere below the sunlight
Somewhere upon the sea
You dig deep enough, you might find me
Find me, 'cause that's where I'll be

Yes I'll drink a lot of whiskey
It gives me such a glow
It makes me quite immobile, but it lest my feelings show
Yes, it makes me quite immobile,
But it lets my feelings show

I don't believe the post formatted correctly (with the chords where they should be) so take BC's advise and check the Great Chords Compilation because that's where I found the chords. :pirate: :pirate: :pirate:
