How dare you take something as good and pure as fishing and turn it into work? You should be ashamed of yourself.
lol...well if you HAVE to work, it might as well be something you want to do, right?

Let's deconstruct this statement.

... if racing isn't a sport
My opinion is that it isn't.

... it has never been disproved.
Sounds like you just proved my point. It has never been disproved that racing isn't a sport. Thank you. The prosecution rests.
There goes your lack of comprehension skills again or maybe it just comes from getting a law degree out of the back of Rolling Stone magazine but no one has ever proved racing isn't a sport. For something that's been in existance as long as automobile racing you'd think if it wasn't a sport someone would of concluded otherwise by now. Fact of the matter is, they haven't. It is recognized as a sport the world over.
Jah, you're getting a little worked up over this. There's no need to attack anybody, even if it's in jest. This is a simple debate. Deal with it and don't take it personally, nor make it personal.

In an earlier post I addressed what I feel is your basis for sport, the acceptance by many people. (Remember the "fart" analagy?) What everyone accepts does not necessarily make it a cold hard truth. The Loch Ness Monster example is perfect.

I never expected to find a conclusion that all walks of life can agree to just by debating this point. Do I think, in my own opinion, that any form of auto racing is a sport? No. Neither do I think that bowling, figure skating, gymnastics, are sports. Are gymnasts athletes? Yes, but that which they engage in is not a sport. They are two very different things, and that is central to this debate. (something a lot of people missed.)

that's not true. Rowing - you sit, but it is a sport.
No, it's a waste of perfectly good fishing resources.
who wants to fish from a 3/8" think carbon fiber rowing shell?
can you troll at rowing speed? if so, I'm in :)
never tried it but I do know you can water ski

Damn, I didn't know mindreading was one of your skills or that you'd taken over this site and now have the right to tell people how and what to post. I can't help it if your argument is weak but I've got some news for ya, auto racing is a sport. So is motocross and the other activities you mentioned.

If you leading a race your on the defense. 2-43 positions are on the offense to take the lead

Category 2: A competition of measured performance -
DUH, the finish line is the measurement. And the faster a car goes and the faster the crew works, the better a driver can be

Category 3: A head-to-head competition to a fixed point - the drivers skill and talent is in driving a 200mph, 3500lb. car with 42 other drivers for 3-5 hours straight. And drivers DO go through strenght training
also....

A recent study shows race car drivers are as well-conditioned as other athletes - and their sport is just as demanding.

They are skill tests ....... not a sport of strength/fitness. ... :P

(and what is the point of looking at racing car drivers - you cant see a thing - not good for female viewers  )

I'm staying out of the "is auto racing a sport" argument, because it's pointless to argue opinions as fact. However, to say that driving a race car or race bike is not an activity that requires strength and physical fitness is ridiculous. In fact, I'd venture to say that it requires a higher level of fitness, as these drivers don't get to rest, as do athletes in just about every other sport.

It is engine and skill v engine and skill ... being fitter than someone else wont get you a win - if you have a crap motor :)

It will if the guy with the good motor isn't fit enough to keep his physical and mental concentration sharp for the duration of the race.

Apparently you can add "Define Sport" to the subjects that can not be civilly discussed here (along with religion, politics and whether prawns are better eaten with cocktail sauce or drawn butter).

you could probably make a case for spelling bee's as a sport than. The mental concentration is obvious and towards the later rounds those kids have to stand for an extreme amount of time
