Okay I said it. I am now fast approaching mid-life... no, not a mid-wife... and I think I can really appreciate how cute a child is. This weekend we had a couple over and they brought their new boy. Granted, at seven months he was beautiful, wonder-eyed and his whole hand wrapped around my finger. For years I have been (literally) scared of having kids due to the ENORMUS responsibility/ let alone for how many years you are with him/her too. Am I selfish? Yes but not as bad as I was. I told my wife, "Wow, now that is one beautiful child." Did not cry a peep for the whole day and when he needed changing, I didn't do a thing. BTW, we are never around kids and after seven years together we have never had a child in our home and that goes for visiting other people/ purely an adult world.... in the kindest sense mind you!
So for all you parents out there I salute you. We have only a few years left to make the decision if we still want to try. My fear is the teen years especially... between 12 and 16 I was a complete ass. Really and I have regretted it ever since.
Just some words from a guy that came to a realization I guess.

I swore my ENTIRE life that I wanted to remain childless.....
then I married a guy with THREE kids, all of whom lived with us....I was more convinced than ever that I didn't want kids......
When my Dad died something just changed and I really wanted to have a baby.....I can't IMAGINE my life without my daughter, she's one of (the other is her dad) best things that have happened to me! She's thirteen now and still an absolute joy....even on those "trying her wings" days!
Good luck in your decision....it is huge because it changes everything...but it's certainly not one I have regretted.....but then again we still have a few more years to get through the dreaded teens....maybe I spoke too soon!!

As many of you know, I operated Minor League Baseball Clubs for 12 years. If you don't live in a Minor League town, in the 80's and 90's we were America's baby sitter. Most promotion back then was by "free ticket" parents would put a five in the kids hand and barely slow down when dropping them off unattended. I was convinced every child was evil
In 1991 when I proposed to my beautiful bride, I said something a$$-like about, "I'll give you a ring, but don't ever ask me to give you a child" And I kinda meant it. Two years later I was out of baseball and covering five high schools for a local paper as Sports Editor. I found out that 95% of kids are wonderful and the other 5% went to Minor Leauge basebll games.
In little Milledgeville, Illinois (about 1100 peeps) I was literally adopted. Parents would feed me before games, coaches would take me out for beers after games and I found some remarkable kids. My olest daughter is named for Carie B. and Heidi Jo, hence Carie Jo. Their basketball coach is her godfather and I have not regretted, 3 daughters later, my change of heart one bit.
