Organically grown food

My wife is really into this and spends a ton of money on these foods. I think 1/2 of it is a waste of money and some bozo sticks a label on it claiming it's organic when in deed its not.
What is your opinion/insight on the subject?

I don't have any insight or definitive basis for it, but I agree with you....
wash the vegetables before you eat them....they're fine.
A little pesticide here and there is the least of my problems!

There are strict guidelines in effect for food to be labeled organic. I've done organic and non organic. I can definately tell the difference in taste. IMHO organic is better.

When you're eating non organic food you're eating poison and chemicals that are used on the plants. When you're drinking non organic milk and meat you're ingesting the growth hormones given to the animals. That's one of the reasons that children are now maturing physically faster than say 40 years ago.

In all honesty and from what I know, items with a skin that you'll eat are actually better being organic. Things where the skin is not so porous and will not be eaten don't matter as much (granted, being treated by anything is not as healthy as true untreated food). For things like herbs, I definitely grow my own, because being treated does dull and change the flavor, not to mention just being unhealthy.

Now buying organic in a store is mostly relying on the fact that you hope it's actually organic and not 'organic' to jack up the prices.

It's actually much cheaper to either grow your own (if possible), or go to one of the healthy grower's farms (there's a technical term that I just can't remember right now.

Is that why high school chicks don't look like the chicks I went to high school with?

If so, then I say it's yet another example of better living through chemistry.

That's fine, as long as your neighbors don't rat you out.

Well, duh, that's why you build an enclosed closet in your basement and learn the fine art of hydroponics, lighting, and ventilation

...not that I would know anything about that, of course....

Some things she buys are from local folks and we know are for real. The rest are up for debate.

Thanks, yeah the hand took a beatin but the situation could have been MUCH worse. The pain is really not too bad considering how it looks. Course, that may be the 2 different pain killers I'm taking.

BTW, I'm looking for Ohio people who want firewood (Red & White Oak, hickory, and cherry). You just need a chainsaw to cut it and a 4WD PU. Oh, and you better bring pads and a helmet if your going to be around me! :o Any takers? :D

A friend has 2 children who were borderline ADD. Before chemicalizing them, someone told her to speak to an allergist. The allergist explained that the children's behavior could be from the additives and such. She now feeds them only organic food and they have had no problems since. Coincidence? I don't think so.
