HELP!!!! Where to go?!?!?

Post by MA_Buffett_Fan23 »

Hi all! :D

Well, yet again I've been put in charge of planning a vacation for me and some friends this year.. We originally thought about going to Vegas but we decided we wanted to be at the beach relaxin' with our feet in the sand and a drink in my hand! :P Here's where you come in... Can any of you recommed places to go? The only request they gave me was they wanted to leave the US.. Even though it's in the US I thought Key West but I've been told that would be our last choice.. :( Ohhh, and we haven't exactly picked a time to go yet but we were thinking end of summer beginning of fall as there's a chance I might be India again during July and August.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and if you could recommend why you like that place and things to do or see would be great :D

Thanks y'all!! :D :D

There are number of Caribbean Islands that have all inclusive resorts that would be perfect for this. I've been to the Dominican Republic a few times and loved it every time.
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.

How much money is available to spend? What is wrong with Costa Rica?
Belize? How about Honduras? I suppose there is the well beaten path to consider...Jamaica,Bahamas, Aruba, Barbados,BVI. AVI, Puerto Rico, Cabo San Lucas, etc... but I would highly consider Costa Rica and "other roads" that may well be better known but are apparently less traveled....

If money is no object and must be outside the U.S. then perhaps Thailand or Vietnam or maybe Austrailia or the Phillipines or perhaps South Africa or New Zealand or perhaps Rio de Janiero.

Just a few ideas since you asked for some ideas.

Best of Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions thus far guys...

price range will be between $1000 - $1500 the cheaper the better. We also won't have much time possibly a week if we can agree to something soon and not use our vacation before then (that would be me using my vacation on JB shows... :P ) It may end up only being a 3 or 4 day trip but Ideally I'd like to make it a 5-7 day trip.

Hurricaine Season runs roughly from 01 June to the 1st to middle of November.

There was a tropical system still creating havoc in Dec ... the latest one had been reported lasting on record I think.

Consider the RT air fare and how much accomadations and other expenses will cost. After all you want to go out and have a good time and buy a few momentos.

Americans are well liked and the American dollar is widely accepted in Costa Rica.

I recommend Aruba. There are lots of all-inclusive places there, and the best part is, it does not get hit bu hurricane....ever. It is low enough to be out of the path of hurricanes. Hubby and I went there for our honeymoon.....now this was 5 years ago, but we did it for around $2,100 for a week for both of us. That includes flights, hotel, and an excursion we booked in advance. So I think you could definitely find something in your price range there. We went in July and it was great.....it does get hot, but there is a constant cross-wind blowing, so it always makes it feel a little more comfortable.

Anyway, PM me if you want more details. I could go on and on. We loved it there.

we do our golf tournament in Florida in Oct..because USUALLY you will be safe. Cruises are awesome, and not that expensive considering what you get on them...and they will change their itenirary if there is a hurricane...my pqarents were re routed to Mexico one year as there was a canes where they were going. Have fun!!!!

That time of year, you should be able to snag a good deal to the Pacific coast of Mexico (Acapulco, Mazatlan, Huatulco, etc.). Don't have to worry about hurricanes there.

If you do a cruise, try a Windjammer.

If you are looking for a fun place to stay, Cane Garden Bay in great fun. It's on Tortola. Ole Works Inn (Quito Rhymer's place) is really great. Quito is a singer and sings at his restaurant/bar. There are tons of restaurants/bars along the beach. And you can visit Callwood Rum...made famouse by the song Manana. Though Jimmy changes the name to Calderwood rum.....

We travel to the Caribbean in the fall all the time. One advantage is that it is usually cheaper then. Hurricanes have only cancelled one of our trips.....Gilbert took out Cozumel just before we were scheduled to go there. Since the hurricane seasons have been more active lately I guess you are taking your chances....

BERMUDA its only a few hours away from Boston plane it's closer than California and it's cheap. If you can swing it try Trinidad and Tobago.

The rainiest time of the year in Jamaica is October... If you can swing June in the Caribbean.... you are in good shape! But the odds of getting stuck in a hurricane on during your vaca are slim. I have been to Jamaica 9 times between May and October and last July was the first time one skirted by us.

Trip insurance is a good idea...just make sure it covers weather. However most resorts and travel agents make changes @ no charge if a storm is threatening.

If you are planning for a group get a GWV or TNT book from your travel agent (or check their web sites.) Both have all inclusive to most Caribbean Islands. Books show hotel options for each destination (from 2-5 star)and price charts give you estimated cost for each depending on when you go. Flights are out of Boston with some out of Providence and Hartford as well.

GWV is generally cheaper but TNT is more flexible with schedualing and has some 4 night stays instead of just 7 nights. Books also list different tour options for each destination.

I've been to Cancun, Aruba, Jamaica, Curacao, and the Dominican Republic w/ GWV. My favorite was the D.R. - Hilton Coral Canoa in La Romana.

I suggest you get the books and get your friends together w/ some margaritas and pick where you want to go. Even if you don't book one of these, the books give an overview of most islands and the hotels available there.

Travel insurance is available for both. Typically they have sales in March and October. Prices are reasonable for what you get - airfare, hotel, transport to and from airport, all meals and drinks at most. Can even add in a park and fly hotel stay to your package.

Gook luck, and happy planning!
