replacement windows

we need some help. does anyone have any insight, knowledge, whatever on doing this. even though our house is only 8 years old ( we are the second owners) the windows s***!!! we were actually told that it isn't so much the windows as the installation of them. we have vetter windows, if that means anything to you. the draft is awful.
we are SERIOUSLY thinking of replacing them. we did toy with the idea of just having them reinstalled. however, they are a pain (literally) to tilt in to clean. i have to have the mr. macphin open them for me. the style we have is that you have to push in so hard on the side tracks(??) and then pull the window in. i really want the ones that are very easy to tilt in.
the only window that fits our requirements is the anderson 200 series tilt wash. that style offers the real wood on the inside face. we need this because all the trim & doors are fur with a poly coat. we just saw an advertisment for another replacement window called renewal by anderson. i'm waiting on info on this style. we don't know if they are any better and still somewhat reasonable cost wise ( no more than $400/window).
any info offered is appreciated.
thanks.

If you can wait until Monday when Mr Topless returns from Vegas... I will get you some answers. He is a window expert... He is the manufacture's rep for a very large window company and had 18 years experience..... Vetter is one of his smaller lines... he might be able to offer some advice.
If I call him about it today I might catch him sitting at a BJ table and not get the answer we need!

topless,
that would be great. we have a rep from anderson coming tomorrow am to give us the lowdown on the renewal product.
if he would be willing to talk to us ( pm me your number, date & time to call) we would love that. we are so afraid that even if we get new windows, some buffoon will install them incorrectly like before.
-wish we were going to your phlocking next month.
-waiting for the tampa tour date.

What little I personally know is that if they are installed incorrectly... no matter what you pay for them... they are junk! I am sure Dave can offer some advice... He gets in Sunday morning off the red eye.... so once he unwinds, sleeps or what ever.... I will ask him about it and we'll go from there. Why dont you PM me you # if you want in case he would think it easier just to call.
We are so anxious for the Tampa date to come out as well!!!!

My MIL is facing that exact problem right now. She had all new windows put in the lower level of her house and they were installed fer sh*t. They look bad and don't really do what they are supposed to do. It's a shame because they are beautiful windows and french doors.
My GMIL has the Pella ones in her house, and although you'd have to put a 2nd or 3rd mortgage on your house to pay for them, they're really nice looking!!

I do know that 9/10 times the company who sold the windows sent a sub contractor to install them ...but they will usually guarentee the work. Has Grandma called the companay yet? If she has and they have not respnded...tell her to call Pella and start screaming... I KNOW she will get attention! Dave gets those calls alot!

It's MIL with the bum windows. Interestingly, they picked the company from the BBB list and a local troubleshooter Web site, which is usually very reliable.
The company is now out of business, so they are just beginning to figure out what kind of recourse they might have.
Grandma's windows are gorgeous though!
