How do I get MID to say YES!!!! We'll camp or sleep in the car, but we can be there.......
Kidnap her. Act like you're going out to eat or something, and just keep driving.
Or just stop on the way back from Dallas...

If anybody, like myself, is a fan of Robert Randolph & The Family Band, it's been posted that they're playing the fest on the second Saturday. Not sure how reliable this website is (I'd never heard of it before) but here you go...

There had been some good deals out there from this collection of Big Easy hotels, but they have been going up in price and disappearing altogether. Still worth a try if you're looking to stay in the Quarter or within walking distance.

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard French Quarter last year. The room was a little small, but other than that it was fine.

Also, I'd highly recommend...
http://www.maisondupuy.com/ (A little pricey, but very nice)

Also try,

http://www.nola.com/

And, if you don't already use http://www.tripadvisor.com/ it can be a handy resource before booking.

Good luck!

If anybody is going to Jazzfest for the first time...

Do yourselves a favor and don't camp out in front of the Buffett stage all day. You'll miss the true flavor of what New Orleans and Jazzfest is all about (the local music, gospel, jazz, blues etc, incredible food choices scattered about and overall amazing experiences to be found at all of the stages at the Fairgrounds).

It's a lot to take in, but well worth just walking around all day and journeying over to Jimmy's stage right before he comes on. We all know the fun is usually out on the lawn vs right in front of the stage anyway, right?

It's definitely in a perfect location. Back in '02, the Jazzfest Express shuttle picked us up and dropped us off right at the hotel. I think it was $15 round trip. Last year, we learned to save money and take the bus from just outside the quarter. Either way, it's all good.

FYI...Maison Dupuy has a very nice champagne brunch on Sundays if you're so inclined.

again , thanks for the info . . and yes, we are always " inclined " . .! !

oh, and btb. . a lot has changed since the "02 show . . last time Jimmy was there, we were at the gate for the 10:00 a.m. opening. . .by the time we RAN to the stage . . it was already about 30 rows deep and went from side to side . . ! !

:o

and there was NOOOOO way to get within 100 yards of the stage , in all directions, by 1:00 . . by 5:00 . .there was literally a single line that moved at a snail's pace just on the far, far edge . .made even buying a beer . . .well, let's just say . . a major pain in my a$$ . . . it was brutal . .

just go with this info in mind . . cuz I bet this year will be just as bad. .

I do agree with your " enjoy it all " comment . . that is really what I enjoyed . . . even ran into Mr. Utley and family there . . ! !

lol.. I was there in '02.. my first time in NOLA.. had no clue that Buffett was even playing. When we got the schedule for the day I about flipped. It was my first Buffett show ever! There were 3 of us and we managed to squeeze ourselves into a spot about 40 rows back about 45 minutes before he went on. At that point we were ready to sit. We took turns with the beer runs. It was GREAT!!!!! I really wish I could go this year.. budget won't allow it though...

Hey I was just checking the jazz fest grids and it says that Little Feat is playing at Margaritaville on Sat night the 6th. So Sonny Landreth is on Friday, I say we meet to see Sonny as he's not playing Jazz Fest that weekend but Little Feat is. Just a thought! Jimmy is pals with both of these maybe he might stop by eh? An article in my local paper this morning also said Fats was the closing act on Sunday.
