you would you starbucks drinking yuppy.
Please! If you knew me, you would know I'm the furthest thing from being a 'yuppy' ... Oprah bashing, Starbucks bashing, etc. is more 'trendy' than the simple appreciation of either of them. She may not appeal to everybody's taste, but I, for one, appreciate her intentions. She wants to do good... if she makes bazillions of dollars while doing it, good for her... she's a brilliant, talented entrepreneurial mind and she's living the American dream that most people dream of! Bashers just seem jealous and bitter, IMHO.

Sort of like those who insist on pointing out the plastic surgery of the stars?

She's a brilliant self-promoter. When everyone in her audience got cars last year (or 2 years ago, whenever it was), all the headlines the next day said Oprah gave 275 people brand new cars. Oprah didn't give anybody anything, the cars were donated by GM.

The only reason she's living the American dream is because there are so many gullible people out there who would follow her over the cliff like a pack of lemmings.

That's where you have misjudged me or I may have misrepresented my intention whenever posting something from various plastic surgery websites. I simply think it's interesting... not bashing. Those sites are frequently noted on blogs I read and I just relay it here.

actually both of you are right. I really don't have anything against her and she seems like a cool person. I'll agree that her business sense (or skill of choosing those with good business sense) has made a tremendous world of difference for her. I just like to tease.

My ex-gf's mom looked a lot like Oprah, if she were white.

Exactly. And what is inherently wrong with that? What other celebrity/personality is negotiating and arranging a deal with GM to have cars donated to people? Whether she gains good publicity for it or not, her intention is still to get the cars to those that needed them. She wasn't offering them to just anyone that showed up at the her studio.

I don't know... I'd say the whole purpose of this website is for people who follow JB to gather... wouldn't outsiders call most of us lemmings? Who's to judge?

At least Buffett contributres something in the form of good music. The only thing Oprah contributes is a trashy TV show. She's Jerry Springer lite.

Wasn't there a big stink about that because she gave them the cars, but didn't tell them about and didn't cover the cost of taxes and tags? I remember a couple people on the news saying they were peeved because they couldn't afford it and it wasn't a gift after all.

Yes. And that was really unfortunate. It may not have been the most well thought out plan in the end. But no matter, I still appreciate the intention of Oprah and GM... self-promoting or not. :-?
