Help me win an argument about JB...

A "friend" of mine says that Buffett has never been able to pull a crowd of 60 or 70 thousand at a concert like the Chili Peppers can. I know that he played two shows at Fenway last year, but does anyone know what the largest attendance he has ever had for one show??

Please help. I need to prove this friggin' moron wrong!!!

Probably at Alpine.

Or maybe Texas Stadium last year (although for purposes of winning your argument, that show also included Alan Jackson and George Strait....)

What about Texas Stadium? I'm pretty sure that Jimmy could sell out just about any stadium.

I'd bet on it, too, but for purposes of the argument in question, he hasn't fillled a stadium on his own, yet.....

Where and when exactly did the Chili Peppers draw 60,000-70,000? There's only a handful of bands that can sell out 60,000 seat football stadiums on their own and I doubt that the Chili Peppers are one of them. If Buffett ever played Gillette Stadium, he'd sell out several shows guaranteed.

He's filled Fenway and Wrigley, but they're relatively small stadiums..

where, exactly, did the Chili peppers appear? Some college football stadiums are that big...pro ones, too, i suppose..

Alpine is maybe 40k, everyone crammed onto the lawn in violation of country health codes, etc.

Do the simple math, if Fenway holds roughly 35,000 and he sold out two shows (in a matter of minutes, I might add), then there's your 70,000 right there.

I'm guessing your friend is probably one of those who thinks that Buffett has no songs other than Margaritaville?

I think the "friend" would then shift to the "at one time" argument. You actually need a "one night, one show, played University of MI/Notre Dame/UT at Austin" show to win it outright.

Yeah, I guess that's the argument in the first place. I, for one, kinda hope we never find out. No more stadium shows!!!

From the Alpine Valley web site:
http://www.alpinevalleymusic.com/theaterinfo.html

"Seating Maps and Locations
Alpine Valley Music Theatre has a capacity of 35,000 guests. Approximately 7,500 covered reserved seats are available for each show with the remainder being uncovered general admission lawn seating."

92,000 attendance on 05/05/2002 at Jazz Fest. Of course, your friend will argue that not all those folks were there to see Jimmy, but...he was the last act, on the main stage...and I would swear on the Holy Tequila Bottle that the mass of humanity behind me was at the minimum 70 thousand people! AND, they all looked might familiar! I will have to search my photo archives

Yes, I would also like to know the date and venue that the Chili Peppers pulled in 60-70K???

Citizen's Bank Ballpark in Philly holds 43,500 in the seats alone. add the on field seats and he did two shows there.
