If the Tigers end up winning the World Series, those idiots in Detroit will end up making post-Katrina New Orleans look like Shangri-La.

Here is my call...
Torre: Great manager and I love him, but the last few years he has been loyal to a fault with certain players and he refuses to play smallball. It's not a knock on him, it's just time to go in a new direction. BYE.
A-Rod: The less said, the better. I will drive him to the airport if it gets him out of town faster. BYE.
Bernie Williams: Another great Yankee that I'll always love, but it's time to retire. "It's over Johnny". BYE.
Sheffield: No need to pick up the option. Let him go and trim some fat. BYE.
Randy Johnson: I understand why they signed him. They needed a counter to Schilling and it didn't work. He got to NY and simultaneously "got old". I'm not sure how they can get rid of him(in fact I think barring retirement, they are stuck with him), but if at all possible....BYE.
Mussina: I'd sign him to a reasonable 2 year deal. If he wants 3 years or big money....BYE.
Let's go with younger, lower paid, role players and sprinkle the occasional bigtime guy in there. I appreciate Steinbrenner's willingness to shell out the $$, but it's time to go in a new direction. No more $20 Million guys.
I said it before and I'm sticking to it....the most fun I've had watching them the past few years was when they were winning with young, overachieving role players this year. Hell, these are the guys, with Jeter's leadership and Wang's pitching that got them to the postseason. More of that please.
Everyone please commence teeing off on them now. (Except you Red Sox fans...remember that you finished in 3rd place).

I don't think it is going to be easy to trade ARod, first he has a no trade clause but he would probably waive it but more importantly the only team that could take on his salary is the Red Sox. I would love to see him come to Boston and move back to SS, it will never happen but I would do a Manny for ARod deal in a second.
I think Torre is done and it will happen fast, like in the next few days. Pinella and Giradi are both out there and with so many other teams looking for a manager Steinbrenner will have to act quick to get the guy he wants.
Johnson is not going anywhere and they still have Pavano signed until 2008 and Jarret Wring through next season. They have an option for next season for Mussina and Sheffield, I bet the let Sheffield go and pick up Mussina's option.
I am not shocked that Detroit won but I am shocked at the way they did it over the last 2 games. The Yankees got humiliated, in the last 25 innings they scored 1 run. It's defies logic.

Now that the Yankees are out of it, I'd like to see the Padres and Athletics (or the DODGERS and Athletics) in the World Series. Sorry, Tiger fans-it's nothing personal, but the network a-holes all scream to high heaven if two east coast teams aren't in the World Series, and I have a long standing and very deep rooted hatred for the networks.

That was an 80s thing. Detroit's had six championships in basketball and hockey since the 1984 debacle, all without great incident.
but the empty Silverdome is ready for refugees, just in case

For the city's sake, I hope it doesn't happen this year either.
That's absolutely RIDICULOUS when people do that, and gives the entire city a black eye.

And in true Detroit fashion, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from pre/post riot!

Once the Super Bowl left town, the razing of the condemned buildings stopping in a hurry, didn't it? On the bright side, Ilitch already owns half the buildings downtown....maybe with his additional profits from this season he can buy the other half.

Yeah- but I just moved up in March, so it was stopped before I got here. I want to start a program for suburbanites to pay to do demolition work on the abandoned houses (since who doesn't want to play with a bulldozer?!)- we get to knock stuff down, the city gets money AND fewer abandoned houses- everybody wins!

Looks like ONE of New York's teams will advance in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, it's New York's OTHER team.

I was just reading that. I figured that would be the first move.
Also read where A-Rod really wants to stay a Yankee unless they didn't want to have him around anymore. Then he would waive his no trade clause.
"Rodriguez would have to waive his no-trade clause for the Yankees to make a deal.
"I mean, if they're dying to get rid of me," he said when asked whether he would consider it. "I hope not."(espn.com)
Get ready to waive your no trade clause. They are dying to get rid of you.

Well, I think you can tell A-Rod was floundering. I seriously think he will be out as a Yankee, only problem is who will take him? I seriously think that if a team takes A-Rod, then they will demand that the Yanks will pay the majority of his salary so the Yanks will have to take a hit there.

You know, I was telling this to a friend of mine earlier last week that this would be bad news for the network. No offense to Padres and A's fans but if this happens, FOX will have one of the lowest ratings for a World Series ever.

ARod played for Pinella in Seattle and played well for him. If Lou comes to NY I bet ARod stays.
