I wish I could get close enough to Jim Leyland right now to touch him and see if some of his magic would rub off on me! Last night he inserts Alexis Gomez as his DH (a minor leaguer who had a few cups of coffee with the Tigers this year) in place of Marcus Thames (who swatted 26 HR's in the reg.season) and all Gomez does is crank a 2 Run job, plus a bases loaded 2 run single! :o This man should be playing the lottery right now!!! 8)

How about those Mets? Tom Glavine's looking good in the post season so far, 6 shoutout innings last week against the Dodgers, 7 shutout innings last night.

Tigers up 3 games to none.

In case you don't remember, only once has a team trailed 3 games only to comeback to win the series. :D

The Tigers are 2 wins away from tying the 2004 Red Sox for the most consecutive wins in post season history- 8!

GO TIGERS!!!
He said that Gomez usually kills the ball during batting practice. He's a 5:00 hitter. Well, the game was an early start, so he took a chance on him hitting at 5:00. It worked!

BRILLIANT!

Although he didn't actually hit the homer until between 6:00 & 7:00, can't remember which announcer said it but one of them said, "It's 5:00 Somewhere"!! [smilie=coolup.gif]

Way to go MC Kitties! :P
...and talking about playoff baseball coverage on Fox..

How about that Steve Lyons?

He gets himself fired from one of the plumb jobs in sports cuz he can't shut his big fat yapper after taking some questionable shots at hispanics.

I didn't think his comments about "hablaing espanol" and "not understanding a thing you're saying" were anything to huff about, but...
then, implying that "his wallet was missing", and then "not wanting to sit next to Lou Piniella" (who's of heritage)
was an especially STUPID and INSENSITIVE thing to say on a NATIONAL broadcast.
It may have had an "inside joke" feel to the guys in the booth (they all laughed),
but it didn't sound too smart at all, and I'm hearing that it didn't go over particularly well over here in SoCal... (as if it might anywhere else??? :o  )

Do you think his firing was EXTREME or would a suspension been enough of a slap?

Looking for a new band wagon as the A's lost today. Mrs. TR's family is from the Detroit area, so I am leaning toward an AL team :o

I think if Steve Lyons got a suspension, then there would have been more of an uproar than there was.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I didn't hear his comments during the game but I read them in the paper yesterday. Maybe I'm missing something, but what was racially insensitive about what he said? Have we really become that politically correct?

During the Yankees-tigers Friday night game They played on the scoreboard the one where the redsox girl is in the bathroom crying and Tommy yells "come out of there and we'll all cheer against the yankees. The place went nuts.

I did not hear it. I've only read about it. But using the "Jimmy the Greek" scale, it seems it a suspension would be more in order. Yes, it was stupid for Psycho to say that. It sounds like he picked something up from a meeting, dinner or something that there might have been an inside joke amongst friends. If Fox was consistant about this decision, John Salley, Chris Rose and Rodney Pete should have been fired many times over from BDSSP. I gues their audience is not big enough.

Both Chicago papers & WGN-radio are all reporting a probable Tuesday press conference to announce Lou Piniella as the 48th manager of the Chicago Cubs.

WGN-reports that he was given a guarantee of increased payroll to $115M, or about $20M over last year and a four year deal. The later is interesting since hendry has only a two year deal. WGN is owned by the Tribune Company, which owns the Cubs so they should have pretty good sources
