[quote) For years we have pre-partied at a friend of our's business across the street from the Sports Page when Jimmy came to town. When he played the Shark tank, we got together at my house in Los Altos (about 10 minutes from Shoreline). Our friend has offered again, although we are undecided at this point.

Hey phriends, what time do we plan to start the party? I know we've got time to make final plans, but I just can't wait. The Page opens for lunch, does it not? Anyone know what time that is?

The Page opens at 10am. I remember getting there around 1pm.

Thanks jeepgirl, I could have just called the Page, but that wouldn't have added another post to my list.
I guess The Polly Roger is kind of in charge here. Polly, do you have any thoughts on what the formal plan will be? I guess what I mean is, what time do we plan to start being informal?

Me? in charge?
That's all I want for a Buffett concert, responsibility!!
Sorry Red, just kidding.
There seems to be two schools of thought, one is The Sports Page (
http://www.sportspagemv.com/ ) although they have lost thier entertainment license since the last show so there won't be any band. It has a nice outdoor area with a sand volleyball court (although there was a fire so who knows the condition of the patio). This is a few blocks (4-5) from Shoreline.
The other is the traditional parking lot tailgate and the premium parking lot seems to be the place where the least security/police hassles will be. A few in this thread have claimed to have parties in this lot before without trouble.
Now there is a new posible option suggested by beachmusic, but unless her/his friend's business is a bar/restaurant I don't think he/she'd appreciate a bunch of us crashing the party.
In the next week of so (maybe even today) I'll head down to the 'Page and to Shoreline and see what I can see. Namely the condition of the "Page's patio as well as what I can see of the parking lots at the Venue. I think the RV lot might be a dirt lot in which case I don't think it will dry out much before the show.
Here is a link that shows the Shoreline and Sports Page as well as the general area:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q ... 7,0.031242
As of right now I am planning on parking at the premium lot as early as I can and then walking back to the Sports Page and kind of going back and forth between the two. (heck all that walking will help keep me sober)

Your plan of parking in the lot, and walking between the lot and the Page sounds great to me...the distance is one mile, for those of you wondering.
And yes, that will make me thirstier than I had planned, but I'm sure I'll figure out something to drink.
When I contacted the Shoreline, they told me the parking lot won't open until 5:pm. From the posts to which Polly referred, I agree, it sounds like we should be able to park prior to then, and to start the party at a respectable (early) hour.
Polly, do you have an 'hour' in mind? Sorry to dump so much on you, if this were a local show for me I'd be jumping at the chance to take charge of the party plans. But I'll be 1000 miles from home, my grill, my three-foot shark fin, my 8 x 3 banner (see signature) and all of my usual phriends.
I'll be arriving the evening prior to the show, by plane, so I will need a bit of shopping time in the am, so I can fill the early, sleepless hours of the concert day doing that.
I didn't ask Tim, the Ops Manager at the Shoreline, about the RV lots. He used the term 'paved' when he spoke of the lots, so you're right, the weather may be an issue with how the lots are, come the end of the month.
It's just getting closer and I'm getting more impatient, and more ready to just be there already!!!!

and then, before I know it, it will be over. I HATE that part.

Funny article about Shoreline
Shoreline generator plan moving forward
Garbage-produced methane could help power Alza
http://www.mv-voice.com/morgue/2003/200 ... thane.html
Favorite part:
The landfill that sits beneath about 60 percent of Shoreline park naturally emits gasses, mostly methane and carbon dioxide. Methane can be converted into energy and constitutes 45 percent of Shoreline's landfill gas.
The gas is brought to the surface through a 50-mile network of underground pipes; if it was left in the ground, it would build up and explode (concertgoers in the early days of Shoreline Amphitheatre experienced this firsthand when a leaky landfill cap released gas that ignited tossed cigarette butts).
What would be a good Buffett Shoreline Song?
Volcano? (Too easy)
Hot Hot Hot? (maybe . . .)
Apocalypso? (Pretty Good)

I plan on taking the day off work (duh!) so I was thinking of eating a big breakfast and then getting to the lots around 10-12. Speaking of, maybe some of us can meet (not meat) for breakfast beforehand?
There is an Orchard Supply Hardware near Shoreline (on the map link I posted earlier) if you are looking to pick up some "stuff" for the show (i.e. sand, tubs and the like). There is also a Walmart in Mountain View (one of the few in the Bay Area) for other stuff like a cheap diposable grill.
No worries Red, you're not dumping anything on me. I tend to be "detail boy" anyway but I don't want to structure anything for the Buffett Show which is my normal tendancy. (Did I mention I was working on a BN seating chart

)
If you all need someone to do some legwork before the show or have any questions about the area, I live/work about ten minutes away from the venue so fire away.
Best thing I can suggest is for every BNer going to PM me thier cell number, seats, name etc to get on the list and get a copy yourself (I will PM it so don't worry about privacy). This way you can call around to see where everyone is at and check the seating chart to see if you're sitting close to someone or meet up on the lawn.

by redparrot26
I know that I've been waiting on that seating chart, though I'm one of the many on the grass...or is it a swamp? thank God for the slope, though it only helps so much.
Would this be a bad time to mention that it's in the 70's and bright & shiny today? Or that yesterday I wore my sandals to work for the first time this year? ---it may precipitate later, but it's going to be a nice weekend.
Darn Colorado, and its 300 days of sunshine each year!!
The one place you didn't list being in the area was a liquor store...and strangely enough, I'll be looking for one. And, ever since someone posted info about them much earlier in this thread, I've been wanting to try those Wet Willy Jell-O shots. Maybe they're available at every local store out there, but maybe they're not? Sadly, they're not available here in Colorado.
One other thing I plan to hit prior to the show, and again this is because I'm not a local, is the In n Out....maybe even for breakfast. They open at 10:30 and that's about the time I start to get hungry.
"Parking lots…10-12" sounds good to me. I'll be coming from Los Altos, shopping, hitting the In n Out, then available for whatever (whatever = party, I hope!)

Well, for what it's worth, I just got off the phone with Rob @ the Sports Page. They're likely to be able to reapply for their entertainment license next week. I have no clue how long that process will take, and Rob was in a sufficient hurry that I didn't feel it was a good time to press him. Especially since my gigging there relies on their good graces.
So if entertainment *does* become possible there, it'll probably be one of those "we won't know until the last minute" sort of things. Which I can't say thrills me personally...but odds are I'd still take the gig, even if they called me Tuesday morning before the show to ask me...
At least the sun's out for a while here today.
Phins up,
Loren

Okay during lunch I did a little reconnaissance down in Mountain View.
The Sports Page's Patio area is no longer how you saw it in this picture:
I guess as a result of the fire that whole overhang lanni area is gone. The patio is now just a large cemented area with metal picnic tables and umbrellas. The sand volleyball court is still there though. This doesn't mean they won't dress it up for the day of the show. The indoor looks unchanged and is basically a small, (darkish) sportsbar with a couple of TVs. The staff is very friendly and excited to have so many ParrotHeads coming to town.
As for the venue:
The GA and Premium Parking lots are a little damp but no big lakes or puddles. Just a few small & medium sized potholes filled with water in the Premium Parking area. This should all dry up by the show. The Premium lot is your basic lined asphalt parking lot. The GA lot is a gravel covered paved lot with no marked parking spaces.
I think the Premium Parking lots look better for less hassle from the Mountain View Mounties as the GA lot is on the main street across the street from the Venue. It is a large lot and is very "exposed." The Premium lot is tucked up close to the Venue on a semi-private road with trees, hedges and a large grass covered berm on one side. Shoreline Security would be our only worry, if at all.
I talked to the woman in the box office and she told me the lots open at 5pm and the gates at 6pm.

(hmmm . . . I'm pretty sure we've heard different). When I asked her about tailgating her eyes narrowed and she said flatly "There is no tailgating." I turn around and look at the premium lot not 20 yards away and I see all these large bins marked "recycling" rrrriiiiigggggghhhhhht . . . .
From a distance the lawn looks intact, very green and no noticable muddy areas. There was a good deal of clear run-off coming down the hill through normal drainage channels so this looks good. A few sunny days should dry this up nicely so I wouldn't worry much if you are on the lawn.
As for food, the venue has various concessions (Hot Dogs, Garlic Fries and the like) that look accessible once the main gates open. The Sports Page has your basic pub fare (
http://www.sportspagemv.com/pages/2/index.htm ) and a decent selection of draft beers (Although no Corona on tap at least today). Next to the Sports Page there are a couple small restaurants: Subway, Mexican and a cafe. A ToGos is block or so away from the 'Page. There are a lot of businesses close by including several Google buildings so these places probably fill up around noon.
The closest liquor store is:
Liquor & Tabacco
1040 N Rengstorff Ave
Mountain View, CA 94043
(650) 968-1936
A BevMo is about 2-3 miles away and would (IMHO) be a better choice for price/selection/quantity and kegs (if so inclined)
Beverages & More
423 San Antonio Rd
Mountain View, CA 94040
(650) 949-1826
The sun came out today and it was
beautiful at Shoreline so this should be a great venue for the show (and my first "Outdoors" concert with Jimmy!!)
WOO HOO!!!!

I called the Mountain View BevMo mentioned in my last post and they do carry the Wet Willy Jello Shots.

I have seen these around and had some for the first time at San Jose last year. They are pretty good and without the hassle of making them. Our own BNettes make some tasty jello shots too though. Jen, aren't you looking to make Margarita Jello Shots if you can find the right ingredients?
I will throw a cooler in my car with some Corona and Wet Willys (just to contribute

). My car even has a "secret compartment" that I can stash some boose on the off chance security is searching vehicles. Hell I'll just buy one beer from the venue and just refill thier cup with my beer and smile and wave to security. I'll be drinking early and not heavily as I will be driving home after the show.

Two things....both start with DUDE!!!
First: Dude!?!? I had no idea this was your first outdoor show. This will definitely be cool for you. Being outside, seeing Jimmy, that's one reason why I'm coming all that way for this show.
Second: Dude!! Thanks for the 'well-spent' lunch break, as I presume that's when you did your reconnaissance. To go so far as to speak with people at the Page and the ticket office, those were steps beyond.
Now if we can get some additional info from beachmusic about the 'business across the street from the Page' we'll be well on our way.
Where are these people and their information? DO they work to do or something? Cr@p, that reminds me, I've got things to do in the next 15 minutes. I should probably get to them.
thanks again

No problem, as I told you this is my nature. Drives my wife crazy when we are looking to get a new car or even just a new cell phone!
I am really looking forward to seeing Jimmy outdoors although I hope to make it to an outdoor show in SC, Florida, Hawaii or some other place with balmy nights and tailgating that is off the hook which is near the ocean. I hope to do this before he stops touring. Hard to do with a 9 month old daughter (as of TODAY!!) and a wife that is not a ParrotHead. Of course standing in the cold San Francisco fog with no tailgating was well worth it to see him at The Filmore last year!
In regards to beachmusic's post, aside from busineses the only place I saw across the street from the 'Page might have been the cafe I mentioned.
Cafe Rio
1477 Plymouth St # A
Mountain View, CA 94043
(650) 962-8077
I found a place is right by the GA lot at the neighboring golf course
http://www.michaelsatshoreline.com/about/index.html
They have a cafe that serves breakfast from 7:30 (uh, yeah . . .) 'till 12:45.

everytime i've been to shoreline the mounties have been pretty active in all the parking lots. and they're not nice AT ALL. no dump your cups just out with the night sticks. the venue hates tailgating since they have multiple bars and food consession stands inside the venue and they want every one of your dollars. i've never seen them open earlier than 5 & 6. one time they even gave me a hard time about an early arrival even with a band/staff access parking pass.

I see that BevMo even lists they carry the Kahlua Filled Chocolates, which were mentioned by ragtopW much earlier in this thread as well. I think I need a BevMo in my home town. Not that we don't have nice liquor stores, but this place has everything I search for, though I haven't searched for Captain Morgan yet. But they'll have that too, right? At least I now have something else to do that is Jimmy related!!
Speaking of the liguor filled chocolates, I saw one site listing Malibu filled chocolates. But they were sold out. Those sounded good too.
