Even after the show, the cops gave one of my friends grief about drinking beer from the can instead of a cup. I just don't ever remember seeing so much "law" before....
Who's going to Nissan 8-3-06?

I am sure that I have the most unpopular opinion on this board but I feel compelled to express it.
Being married to a police officer, it disturbs me when people get upset when officers are doing their jobs. Virginia has an open container law and it is illegal to have an open container of alcohol in public. Nissan pavilion asked the local police departments to increase the enforcement of this law on their property and the departments complied with their request.
Please remember that these guys and girls in blue were out there Thursday in 100+ degree heat wearing full uniforms including bullet proof vests. If you got warm at all wearing your shorts and tanktops, please try and consider how they must have felt.
Thats it, I'm done, sorry for the soapbox...

My critique of the future of Nissan wasn't a criticism on the cops. As you rightly point out, they are just doing their job. If Nissan's managment wants to continue to crack down on tailgating drinking, then they are digging their own grave (regardless of what's legal or not legal).lifesgood wrote:I am sure that I have the most unpopular opinion on this board but I feel compelled to express it.

As for feeling bad about the officers being out in the heat, sorry, but that's their job. They made a choice to join the police force, and part of that job description is to be at such events in the heat, and it's what they get paid to do. One of my best friends is a Philly cop and he has to go through working in all sorts of weather as well. I do, however, appreciate the public service the police provide (as long as it is done with professionalism and an appropriate measure of respect for those they are protecting).
And to Frank's point, yeah, it doesn't take much effort to pour your beer in a keg cup, so for those who got hassled about bottles, s*** it up, the hassle was self-inflicted.

Silly Parrothead. Of COURSE it's not hard to pour beer in a cup. Most people I knowrednekkPH wrote:I don't know, we arrived early, and although we saw quite a few officers, we had no problems whatsoever.
I mean, really - how hard is it to pour your beer in a cup? I would think it would take much less energy than has been spent here crying about it.

It's not about the COPS
To the earlier comment from the spouse of an police officer... i don't think it is about the boys (and gurls) in blue who were doing their job, I saw lots of cops, all acting professional and not harrassing those who were not causing trouble. Let's face it, for those who were there to have fun, the police have better things to do, like control those who were out of control.
I did not even have an issue being pulled over at the "sobriety check" just outside the gate. The check likely saved someone's life that night....
No I think the criticism is for the Nissan management and staff. let me start a list.
Stupid things the Nissan staff did at the concert.
1. Parked first-comers farthest from the woods, so it did no good to arrive early and endure the 100+ heat for 2 hours waiting for the gate to open, you ended up with some of the worst parking..
2. Insisted those who brought port-a-potties, or portable outhouses that these be taken down. Why? cuz some morons in the past dump their human remains on the ground when they pack up... what kind of idiot would do that. (Oh, the same A-hole who dumped his cuervo bottles so you could run over them later).
3. Hassled everyone who tried to unload in an impromptu loading zone established near the tree line. Why were people unloading there? See item #1.
4. Had only six security checkers for 20 thousand people, creating a huge pile up at the gate. I have been to Matthews, Petty, Springsteen, almost everything this year and never seen this serious of lack of planning.
5. Security demanding you removed the lid of unopened and sealed H2O bottles. Cuz we were told you can put vodka in them? They were completed sealed and closed! Like WTF I am going to drink straight vodka in 100+ heat.
6. Arbitrarily changing the primeir parking gate entrance, so those who waited there, at the same place as every other concert, got screwed.
7. By having a totally worthless customer service desk, that hands you a flyer with Live Nation's website when you voice a complaint. Like what interest does Live Nation have.
No my conclusion -Nissan staff was aweful, rude, poorly trained and ever more poorly managed.. I am going to Philly or Camden next year.
My ONLY PROPs go to Jimmy for a great show. AND THE GAINESVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT... OMG!!!!! Stroke of genius dispatching GFD truck to the parking lot. Probably saved lives and definitely made the world a better place to live. As always Firemen are my heroes... Oh and the cops too...

Second thoughts
Hey all.
You know I don't feel comfortable about boggarting the thread here but I honestly have something on my mind that I would liket to share.
WHile my previous post may suggest a little light hearted attitude toward the whole tailgate experience I will have to tell you the truth - a confession.
I have been a strong tailgater, arriving early, hanging tough for years at Nissan, but you know how many more times do I need to watch some A**hole puking for hours in the parking lot.
I saw this guy, literally puking for hours and when I point it out to his so-called friends, one of whom I later find out was his brother (FFS) I was given a bunch of s***. I tell the guys you know its 102 out here and maybe they take their puking friend to EMS for an IV or at least haul his puking carcass to the firetruck for a cool down, Well I in turn get a total bunch of s*** for this from his "friends and brother"
So I am watching this specticle and observing that while Bro' is puking between cars his friends are trying to pick up the ladies- which I know is a total arrousal for the gurls, since what better visual stimulation than to have a man hit on you while his friend is throwing up next to him.
I talk to Roy and his girl, ( hey Roy!) neighbors of this spectacle, who told me they had the misfortune of camping next to these slobs all day and they said the same to these dicks. And got the same response. Later about 30 minutes before the concert, I am clearing my camp - putting my gear back in the truck, and these yahoos try picking a fight with me, why cuz I'm wearing my desert camo hat- calling me "soldier boy" and all that ( I am a former Marine so that doesn't go).
Well my lady smartly hauls me away- good situational awareness on her part- but here is the point, why did I work my way through days of prep, waiting hours to get into the partking lot, endure hellish heat, only to get hassled by a bunch of drunken, pukin, assholes.
So my point about going to Camden or Philly was more about never doing another Nissan tailgate. My vision of world piece is more than watching some sleazy guy in a hawaiian shirt puke for five hours with his a**hole brother trys to pick up gurls and pick fights with me.
I don't know about you all but I detected a real disparity in the the clientele of the tailgate- those who were holding true to the sprirt of the event and those who just simply showed up to get as drunk as possible, in as short as time as possible, hope to get gurls by showing their ass, and create general bad karma for the rest. If the cops got down on those yahoos, then any hassle I got from the man was worth it.
I'll go back to my corner and stay off the tread for a while - I just had to get that off my chest.

I've also got one for the stupid staff list. After we parked our car, we looked over at the staff and there was a girl (with very pink hair) that really need to be taught *where* to stand when parking cars. She insisted in standing between the car that pulled in and the car that was parking behind it. Normally not a problem for most people with an average IQ but she almost got crunched between 2 cars when she forgot to tell the car pulling in to stop.
I know that the some of the staff working there are probably high school/college students but maybe they would be better suited flipping burgers.
I think that for some, Buffett is less about the music and meeting people and more about tailgating, getting wasted and picking up chicks. It's a shame but there is always one (or maybe a couple) in every crowd. Take solstice in the fact that natural selection should weed them out.

I hope not, no need for them to ruin any more shows! I maybe a gradually offing - give them a chance to change their ways...green1 wrote:Hockey Mon wrote:Take solstice in the fact that natural selection should weed them out.
You mean we need to wait until December 21st before nature offs them? And will she off them all at once or one at a time so that the others can see what is going to happen to them.![]()

My two pesos worth.
Seems there are some disappointed Nissan fans out there this year. I have to say, I got there early yet again, enjoyed the day, and while the cops did stop by, never gave any harassment other than for us to put our booze in cups, nothing different from the past 8+ years at Nissan. I've been to a few concerts this summer at Nissan already, and we had a hard enough time hiding from the cops in our car so we could have a couple of beers. So, for them to give a little crap to tailgaters about only having to put booze in cups, is hardly anything to b**** about. I guess most of you didn't know what Nissan was like when it opened. Nothing short of a complete police state in the parking lot.
I can't remember a year where I didn't see some young morons drinking like the plane was going down and talking smack to other tailgaters. If anything, there are less of these at a Buffett show than anywhere I've been in the last 10 years. But, I do feel sorry for those of you who had to endure the heat and stupidity for the entire afternoon next to people like that.
In the end, I was just happy earlier this spring that Jimmy announced a concert date here in Virginia. I don't even want to think about the possibility of them not coming next year. So, whatever problems creep up, so be it. We have dealt with new problems each year. I'm sure next year will be something else we don't like. At least we don't have the same parking lot rules as the "new" Merriweather.
Enjoy what we've got now, cause there won't be too many more times to get worked up about what's wrong with the Buffett parking lot scene.

Re: Second thoughts
Last year there was a group of early 20-year olds next to us. The one girl got really sick, was puking, etc, and passed out (and it was not even close to as hot as this year). Her friends didn't totally discount her illness, but they really didn't understand how potentially serious it was (probably have never seen alcohol poisoning). Anyway, they didn't want to get the EMS guys involved, so we did. Personally, I'd rather be sure the she went home ok then regret lack of action later...surfersteve wrote: I saw this guy, literally puking for hours and when I point it out to his so-called friends, one of whom I later find out was his brother (FFS) I was given a bunch of s***. I was at the "new" Merriweather, this summer....July 16 for Sunday in the Country. We not only drank all day, we drank out of bottles while the police drove by and waved. Apparently, they have let up on the rules. I can only hope Jimmy hears of this and starts playing there again.skynzfan wrote:My two pesos worth.

First, he needs two concerts in this area again so the tickets sell out in five minutes rather than one.
Second, for Baltimore folks, Merriweather is 10x more convenient. And less problems getting out of the lot!

Totally. I remember (fondly) the days when he did a couple shows at Nissan and a couple at Merriweather. One time, I literally walked into Tower Records as the tickets were going on sale and went right up to the ticket counter and bought tickets. Easiest ticket buying experience ever.carey24 wrote:First, he needs two concerts in this area again so the tickets sell out in five minutes rather than one.

It's about time! Be great to have Nissan and Merriweather dates again.
