No previews?
The Sopranos relies heavily on symbolism (eggs in season 5). There has to be some symbolism to the weight issue continually being brought up
Carmela flaunting her wealth really shows how hollow her relationship with Tony is. She got shown up by Angie Bumpensaro, who was added to the opening credits this season. Is there more to this story line?
The only thing Vito picks up to eat off of the lunch tray was a hot dog. We haven’t forgotten your orientation….
Tony’s quip about being able to only rely on your family. How’s that working out so far? Livia? Janice? Junior?
What was the significance of the sushi?
Since when are Vito and Phil so close? I just watched all of season 5 this week, and don't remember ANY interaction between them.
I don't recall anyone badmouthing Vesuvio before. Why were Tony and the guys treating Artie like s*** and badmouthing the restaurant?

Carm's father certainly didn't help her much with his "old school" understanding of building codes.Ilph wrote:No previews?

And, talking about symbolism, was there something about Bobby's train set with the Nestle's Quik car?

The only symbolism I could figure out would be related to Janice breast feeding in the opening montage, or it could just be product advertising like the Sopranos is known to do.Lightning Bolt wrote:And, talking about symbolism, was there something about Bobby's train set with the Nestle's Quik car?

I agree that it was probably just paid "product placement".Ilph wrote:The only symbolism I could figure out would be related to Janice breast feeding in the opening montage, or it could just be product advertising like the Sopranos is known to do.Lightning Bolt wrote:And, talking about symbolism, was there something about Bobby's train set with the Nestle's Quik car?
I missed the connection that Vito only picked up a naked hot dog to eat.
Wow! Tony has gotten REALLY HUGE!!!!
Grand Exalted Bubba of the Order of the Sleepless Knights
If you have Comcast.Just an FYI if anyone missed the first episode you can get it on ON DEMAND if you have HBO.
Anyway excellent opener. it was like Chase was showing off in his writing and saying this is what a good tv show is... Desperate what.....?
I love the randomness of this show.

Or the overkill on Atkins' Diet information? I would have never thought I'd hear the words DIET or CARBS on this show?parrot1 wrote:mjcatl2 wrote:I love the randomness of this show.
Like Bobby's hat...
Have been thinking about the show all day....

You got that right.Touch O Parrotdise wrote:man that was weird..
What was with the monks?
The name Finerty mean anything to anyone?
AJ is a wuss.
Meadow is something else.
Someone needs to smack Janice.
Will Christopher turn in the Muslims?
Who was the bald guy at the bar?
Was the bartender and the desk clerk at the second hotel played by the same actor? (The credits say they were different, but they sure looked alike to me.)

I think that the Finerty person wasn't anything more than how confused and frustrated he's feeling now in the coma. Or how things might have turned out if he went 'legit' sometime in his life?
Meadow has grown up well - but AJ is an ass. However, Meadow acted similarly a few years ago. AJ has always been a moody brat.
Can I please smack Janice?
Christopher seems to know the guys in the bar.. but may turn them in to throw off any 'trails' to the 'family'.
Edie Falco was awesome.
Can't wait till next Sunday.

I thought I recognized her.
And what's with the Alzheimer's diagonsis in the dream? Connected to Junior, I suppose.
I don't think I moved a muscle during the whole thing!
If Edie Falco doesn't get an Emmy nomination for that performance, there is no justice!

The dream was full of allusions to hell and heaven - The bartender saying "Costa Mesa...It's dead around here, in response to Tony's question about the town. The commercial on TV, highlighted by a crucifix.
Chris is now driving Johnny's maserati.
AJ’s “poor you” was very Livia.
Tony used to be a patio furniture salesman in the dream. Didn’t he say something to Melfi in season one about being the same thing instead of part of the mafia?
Did anyone else notice that the whole dream Tony is dealing with frustation (fairly well, because we all know he can't do it in real life)?
Edie Falco should win an Emmy just for this episode alone. She was amazing.
I got a little weepy watching AJ with tony, and seconds later he says that he got kicked out of school and becomes a deadbeat again withing seconds! Great writing.
Shouldn't Phil Leotardo have visited? Tony was at the hospital when Carmine was in the hospital.
Was the voice on the phone Charmaine Bucco?
Vito accusing someone else of being gay? Priceless.
Where is the Christopher/Agent Harris/terrorism story arc going to lead us?
Kevin Finnity.... infinity
I hate Janice more and more every episode.

ILPH: Great recap, as always.
I loved seeing Tony keep his cool. Way out of the norm.
