The reason for req. of 1 mile per 5 being straight was so there would be landing strips in the event that airfields were bombed. Eisenhower did have the benefit of experience in that when he got ready for the final push to get the system built. (That, and he was the logistics officer on at least one cross-country convoy for the Army in the 1930s and was appalled at the quality variance of roads in the country. One unified system built to the same specs for rapid transport was his goal)

A fragment of it crashed through the roof of a frame house in Oak Grove and injured Ann Elizabeth Hodges (1923-1972) on the left hip. You can stop someone's yawn by putting your finger in front of their mouth, as if you were going to stick your finger down their throat, doesn't work if you try it on yourself tho.
