why a parrothead has a right to be upset
IM NOT SAYING THAT I AM UPSET, just that YOU have the right to be. here goes:
there are obviously a lot of upset parrotheads these days. here on BN, a few have decided to vent their frustration over various issues. in response another crowd of p'heads has come out with responses such as "deal with it," "dont go if you dont like it," and so on.
here is why YOU have the right to be upset. we are the ones to pay jimmy's salary. we pay for his yachts, homes, cars, airplanes, and all those trips around the world. now jimmy has said over and over again that he wouldnt be anywheres without the fans, and all he does is meet supply and demand, blah blah blah.
choosing to spend money on a concert ticket (and the trip as a whole) is just like any other business transaction. if someone in your family owns a car dealership, then yes, you would naturally want to give them your business. but if you can get the same car for $3,000 less, your going to go somewheres else. "business is business"
ive read a lot about people on here choosing to take beach vacations instead of buffett shows. they know they can get an equally enjoying experience either way, but one is cheaper (and longer). again, business is business, jimmy.
no matter what buffett does, there will alway be a group of people who will defend him...even if he commits murder. i call these "brainwashed" buffett fans. so if you're upset over ticket prices or anything else, you have the right to be. and if jimmy wants to keep making 44 million a year, he should listen to the people who basically throw money at him every year.

Brainwashed is an apt description but I really like the one I read the other day that referred to them as "beak freaks". That there's a good 'un.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:no matter what buffett does, there will alway be a group of people who will defend him...even if he commits murder. i call these "brainwashed" buffett fans.

What??? Where is Jimmy building a car dealership????? Cause I will have to run right over there and buy a car from him since he will give me the best deal....... (paaaallllleeze)
Seriously.... I for one... am not defending him against murder. I am defending his right to charge any dadgum amount he chooses for his merchandise, movies, books, recordings and live shows. Just as I am sure he would do for me!

But remember, HE is the one doing all the work. Not us. That's why he gets paid. To entertain us.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:

Anyone has the right to take their business anywhere else. Nobody is MAKING you pay for tickets.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote: choosing to spend money on a concert ticket (and the trip as a whole) is just like any other business transaction. if someone in your family owns a car dealership, then yes, you would naturally want to give them your business. but if you can get the same car for $3,000 less, your going to go somewheres else. Really? I've been brainwashed? That explains a lot.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote: no matter what buffett does, there will alway be a group of people who will defend him...even if he commits murder. i call these "brainwashed" buffett fans.
Murder? No.
But this is the USA. He is a Capitalist. Yes, some phans wish to believe he is above "Making Music For Money", but the simple fact is, this is how the world works. Sorry pholks.
Yes you do. Another part of America that I love. The Right to be upset.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote: so if you're upset over ticket prices or anything else, you have the right to be.
Just be ready when others don't agree with your point of view.
He should? Convince me why.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote: and if jimmy wants to keep making 44 million a year, he should listen to the people who basically throw money at him every year.

Nobody forced me to jumb on this train in the 1970's and if and when I decide (not going to happen) to jump off, is also my choice. I do at this time chose to not pay over 100 per ticket, but I wouldn't pay that to see ANYBODY.
Am I disappointed, sure. Hey I'm more p*** that gas was 2.49 a gallon this morning cuase some freakin' sheik farted in Saudi Arabia

I think they call that Stage 612 lb. nestle crunch wrote:no matter what buffett does, there will alway be a group of people who will defend him...even if he commits murder. i call these "brainwashed" buffett fans.
6. Buffett is God
Starts collecting the albums, buys a couple more Hawaiian shirts, maybe even a coconut bra. Has two concert tees, and a subscription to the Coconut Telegraph. Suddenly has a burning need to find out all that is Buffett. Considers Buffett to be GOD, 'though they've never heard the song "God's Own Drunk". Actually believes Buffett is a beach bum. NOTE: Some people never get passed this stage...
We've gotta roll with the punches
Learn to play all of our hunches
Makin' the best of whatever comes your way
Forget that blind ambition
And learn to trust your intuition
Plowin' straight ahead come what may.

No, I read it.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:hey CaptainP, during your quote party, you forgot to read the VERY FIRST SENTENCE of my post
My responses, like your original post, were put out as a generalization. I was taking a contrary point of view in order to further the discussion.
I never meant to imply any of these things referred to you personally, only to those who are jumping off of bridges over ticket prices. If I implied anything else, I apologize, but remember, you were the one to put it out there. People will interpret this as your opinion, whether it is or not.

I'm saying that I understand how Capitalism works, and that Capitalism is the basis for our current society.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:
YOU live in the real world? what are you trying to say?
There are those who have a perception of the World that their heroes (in this case, Jimmy) always do what is popular and help the little guy. Usually not the case.
For me, it's about the music that I love. If I have to pay more, I choose to. If I ever think the prices are more than I can afford, I won't go. But I won't ever say he doesn't have the right to charge a certain price, nor will I imply that he is wrong to do so.
I love a good debate!

Re: why a parrothead has a right to be upset
Why another thread? Aren't there enough already?12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:IM NOT SAYING THAT I AM UPSET, just that YOU have the right to be. here goes:
Yes, everyone has a right to be upset at the ticket price if they choose. I don't recall it ever being said that that one couldn't. However, everyone that wished to attend have as much right not to be raked over the coals for our choice as well. We also have the right to wish people would go whine in one place.
You (general you) don't want to pay to go see him....don't go. Easy as that. Doesn't effect me and the right to my choice.
PS: I wouldn't defend anyone convicted of cold-blooded murder. Nice ad hominem on those that don't share your view though.

maybe you understand capitalism, maybe you dont. but jimmy is an entrepreneur. and as a fellow entrepreneur, i can say that you dont understand anything about reaching and satisfying the target market...something jimmy is slacking on. dont accuse me of living in Oz, buddyCaptainP wrote:I'm saying that I understand how Capitalism works, and that Capitalism is the basis for our current society.12 lb. nestle crunch wrote:
