Best Rivalry in Sports

So what is the best rivalry in sports? The Duke losing thread and SuperTrooper's search for advice on seats got me thinking.

For me, nothing beats a Yanks/Sox game when both teams are fighting for play-off spots down the stretch. And there is no other rivalry where if your fifth game is against your rival that it is going to have a play-off atmosphere. And this goes on all year long with each team trying to out do each other during the hot stove league and making moves based on each other's moves or who will do well against each other. Yankees/Sox are more likely to get front page news or be top story on Sportscenter during their offseason in January than say, Duke-UNC would get in August.

Wow, how did I forget that? I know growing up with Raider fans as cousins that they always despised the Chiefs, but I should have remembered that.

BASEBALL-
YANKEES vs. Red Sux
I thought I'd say that and jump ahead of the ivy league rejects who call the YankEES by that other name
I wanted to say the Cubs vs. Cardinals, but it's not really a rivalry as long as the Cubs keep putting pathetic teams on the field.
The Mets & Phillies can be pretty fun to watch sometimes too.

FOOTBALL
Bears vs. Packers
no other comes close

BASKETBALL
Knicks vs. Celtics
(going fishing here, since I haven't really followed the N.B.A. since the GREAT Michael Jordan retired)

HOCKEY
Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs
like it or not, it IS still a Canadian game

COLLEGE
Iowa vs. Iowa State
hey, we're more than pigs, corn, & chicken, you know

RAIDERS vs. CHIEFS????????

My boss went to Texas. There was a guy at Lake Tahoe minding his own business with an A&M hat on. My boss walked up to the guy and told him it was too bad he didn’t have the grades to go to the REAL school in Texas. A fight almost broke out.

It's carzy down there!

The Cards/Cubs rivalry is a pure rivalry that has existed over YEARS without media overexposure like some other baseball rivalries (not naming names.....)

Although I love Wino's take on the midwest rivalry!

I'll never hear the end of it. Boy do they really not like California for some reason. The only thing better than winning the Rose Bowl was beating USC.

As long as the tribune company owns the Cubs, they'll never be anything more than mediocre at best. To believe anything else can only be attributed to youthful ignorance.
