I absolutely HATE it when I post something profound and the people who are meant to see it DON'T because a new page has started.

Ok. So it's bad. But it's funny. Admit it.
No, NOT funny.
But you people got your wish-the seals are being turned into furs for your types of people. The same people who don't believe in capital punishment (that's where convicetd FELONS are put to death, as opposed to the brutal & barbaric means of killing innocent animals that harm NOBODY).
I'll bet the same people who don't have a problem with this are the same people that think NASCAR racing should be banned.
Garry, et. al. I wish I had a really logical and well thought out argument as to why I thought that title would be funny, but I don't.

I will promise you, though, that I will never try and outlaw NASCAR though. I think men in those jumpsuits are sexy and I want my own Viagra car.

Believe me, the fact that I don't support capital punishment but the whole seal thing in Canada doesn't seem to bother me is an irony that is definitely NOT lost on me. Heck, I don't even spank my kids.

I'm absolutely beside myself with my apolling behavior.
MAL:
My post wasn't just directed toward YOU personally, although I did use your post to preface mine.
Yeah, what you said maybe isn't funny (to SOME of us, anyway), but I can't ever imagine you clubbing one of those seals to death any more than I'd shoot a liberal (in reference to the bumper sticker on my car that says "IF GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, HOW CAN WE SHOOT THE LIBERALS?")
I know YOU wouldn't want to ban NASCAR, but a lot of people do,
and I know YOU'D never spank your kids, yet lots of people beat the holy crap out of them just for amusement. (If you ever want to hear some horror stories from my job, P.M. me anytime-but make sure you have at least three bottles of sleeping pills for later).

It wasn't that long ago when I was P.E.T.A.s biggest nightmare, and used the term "animal rights wackos" like Mike Tyson uses the "F" word.
Now, due to getting older, more induced with wine, or whatever, I'm PROUD to be an animal rights wacko. I hope you understand.
They're BABY SEALS, and it's heartbreaking to see the BABIES being clubbed to death simply for someone else's enjoyment.
Hell, what if it was acceptable to do that to OUR babies?
Okay-I'm done-hopefully for the rest of the night. Probably not, but we'll see.

To sum things up. I think that anyone who clubs (and/or skins alive) a baby seal should be burned alive!! Animals are our friends!! Those Canadian pricks!!!
Damn Canadians. Oh wait. I AM one. (We don't support this heartily either.)
TikiT,
I know from what I have been able to find that not many Canukians support this. The other day someone said that that was old data and that the attitude had changed and more Canuckians were supporting "the hunt".
I know Canada is a huge place with people all over... but can you offer any input as to if the opposition of the people up there has changed and if it has how so or how much it has changed?

Thank you,

I find, Sam, that it largely depends on whether people in the vast country that is Canada are looking at it from an emotional, ethical or economic perspective as to whether they for or against the hunt. You will hear some express the sentiment that this is very necessary for the well-being of the Newfoundland and Labrador (plus native) fishers, yet statistics show that less than 5% of their annual income comes from the harp seal harvest.

I would wager that most people are uncomfortable with it to a point where they would like it to stop.

Birds of a feather..............AH, forget it! I'm too damn tired to give my usual effort into p*** certain people off-
but I will make this PROMISE now to all who read this:
SOMEDAY, maybe six months from now, maybe a year from now, maybe FIVE years from now, SOMEDAY this barbaric BULLSH*T will be banned.
This is a promise-it WILL happen.
And I can say I helped.
Good night!!!!!!!!!

uuh...no..I did not...not even a little funny...

325,000 fur pups were slaughtered today..and their blood and remains are scattered over the ice and snow..all for the sake of someone's vanity...

and their Mothers were witness to the entire carnage...do they mourn for the loss of their babies tonight? I think so..

but we're are making advances...you do admit it's probably not necessary...(baby steps!!!).

I agree, they probably shouldn't be slaughtered esp. if it's just for pelts. Seal moms mourning though? I don't think so. I don't believe animals have the ability to do that.

you've never heard a cow bawl all night when it's calf was taken away?....really?

Cate,
Many thanks. I did not think that it could have changes so dramatically over the last couple or so years. I know I read the native/indigenous people have a hunt starting in November. I am not sure how long it last but they don't specificailly hunt the young ones hich are not even born until late Feb early March. From what I have learned /heard of this slaughter is only open to roughly around 5,000-6,000 "fisherfolks" or something like that, and if actually that many are really involved.

I have not seen any real data on the baby harp seal slaughter that involves any of the native/indigenous peoples....it may be out there, but I have not found any indication of their involvement, as of yet. My understanding, is this is strictly a commercial slaughter for the "fisherfolk" to supplement their income in the off season.

No matter, the slaughter for someone's simple vanity, still sickens me.

Thank you again,
Peace be with you, and pleasant dreams and a relaxing rest as well.

THAT would be a tough one, if not altogether impossible for anyone to follow up on-so with that, I'm off to bed so I can get up in four hours and go "meet & greet" the TWO LEGGED animals.
