whoever opened the MSC today didn't call it Seal Slaughter Saturday????

Ok. So it's bad. But it's funny. Admit it. You want to laugh. Even though it's wrong. No matter what side of the issue you're on.

Back to housework. Lotsa dusting and vacuuming and scrubbing to do before hubby's 30th b-day party next week.

Mal,
I suppose you think "dead baby jokes" and dead babies are funny as hell as well? Perhaps you think it is funny to see innocents slaughtered. That is up to you. However that does not make it funny to everyone. You need to realize that.
Since you think such slaughter is so funny... why don't you go look at the videos and some of the still photography from the hunt. No doubt you will die from laughter.

I am more than happy to provide you with links to both videos and still shots from the annual slaughter...perhaps even some video of the poor critters being skinned alive.... That should really set off your laugh meter... I will try to find some footage with sound, so you can hear the animal scream in pain while it's skin is torn off of it's body. That should really make you spew on your monitor and keyboard.

I see nothing funny about the slaughter and I see nothing funny about your comment. No I do not want to laugh. Nor would I laugh at it if I were on the other side of the issue. My stomach is stronger, and I have seen many horrible things you can only dream about and things I would love to forget about and never remember, If not for those things, and I had a weaker stomach, I would not hesitate to puke at what you attempted to make a joke about.

Just because you don't believe such actions are wrong or see nothing wrong with slaughtering baby seals, is no reason to rub salt into the wounds of those who do.

You admitted your suggestion was being sick but funny....

I do not find your suggestion to be anything but sickening and showing a blatant disregard of respect for life in general.

An off color comment meant in jest does not necessarily constitute a disregard for life.

I could easily make off colored humorous comments that would be blatantly offensive and against everything I believe in.

I would probably laugh at them, too. Doesn't mean I support or believe it.

Agreed...What is that line?
If we couldn't laugh we'd all go insane

Ya think?

I find it difficult to imagine Buffett laughing over something like what happened on the ice floe today. or him laughing over the wanton slaughter of any marine life...

exactly, today at work I made someone mad for suggesting that Lee Greenwood was the real mastermind behind 9/11.
Kinda sick but funny in a twisted way much like the joke that Wonderbread had Dr. Atkins taken out

Poor taste is no excuse for bad judgement on anyone's part. That was more than an "off color comment" and more acceptable. Clearly she admitted she knew it was sick. She said admit it you want to laugh. I can only agree she was right that it was sick. And I do stand by statement it was a blatant disregard of life. You have your opinion...I have mine.

Perhaps if she or you, or anyone else that thought such slaughter was so humorous and was so funny or excusable had actcually watched the videos or looked at the stills of the baby seals being clubbed to death and skinned and some being skinned while alive....I doubt would make or attempt to justify such a statement.

I think if anyone made such a statement about clubbing your horse or dog and skinning them, you would find it justifiable. If anyone was out clubbing dogs, cats, horses, and /or other critters in the head and skinning them and some of them alive while they are being skinned,no doubt some would find that humorous as well and some would try to justify the actions of those doing so. While others would say the person was sick and needed severe help or else it was only a matter of time before they moved on to doing it to humans.

Not too many people tried to justify the actions of the sick minded idiots that poured acid on that puppy that had to be euthanized, did they?

All I can say is as Garry said, try to do it to me or one of my critters....

Probably not, and I doubt if any of us were standing there watching it, we probably wouldn't laugh either. But then, no one is making fun of the actual event, but some of the discussions that have taken place here.

But there's also something to be said for being able to take something in the context it's meant rather than making absolutely everything to be 'against' a cause and uncalled for.

Take any comedian. They can make jokes about abortion, suicide, capital punishment, racism, peta, domestic abuse, aids, --fill in any questionable subject--. Some people laugh, some people jump on a soapbox and say it's uncalled for. Doesn't mean that comedian supports or advocates any of those issues.

A little bit of relative humor interjected into a situation goes a lot farther than a grim faced, limited discussion. Doesn't make anyone a better or worse person for it.
